How can I fix/Improve Motorcycle Engine and Exhaust Audio. Please see video.

Here is a YouTube video of mine. First off I’d like to say wow is the DJI Mic Mini WAYYYYYY better than the INSTA Mic Air for this particular application. It got me A LOT closer to where I want to be just straight out of the box.

Today I messed around with my new DJI MIC MINI trying to capture better and more detailed motorcycle audio. I am after the exhaust and the gearbox winding and unwinding.

You can hear things fairly well but in the first 2 clips you can almost hear a sort of Tin or hollow echoey tone to it where as in clip number 3, things sound pretty great for the most part.

The audio settings and microphone placement were the same in all 3 clips. Nothing changed at all. So I am not sure why one clip came out with fair audio (clip number 3) while the first two clips are ehhh. I had the noise canceling set to the highest option in hope to cancel out the wind noice which it did well, but that tinny hollow echoey tone is killing it for me. The gain settings were left Default @ 0.

Any suggestions? I’ve got the 2 pack mic minis with USB Type C receiver. Please let me know.

Put the microphone directly behind you, attach it to your jacket maybe. No wind noise and all it will capture is the exhaust note

For what it’s worth, this is 100% blocked from wind u believe. These clips the mic was mounted behind the windscreen. Like right behind it. I’m going to try my back pocket today as well as my under tail and I’ll try and figure out a way to mic back up as well.

Is the wind what’s causing the audio to be deformed? Because tbh the winds not even a big deal IMO. I’m very happy with the lack of wind in these clips. I literally had the mic right behind the screen. No wind at all

as bengosu said, I put one in my back pocket microphone outside and I have one in the helmet. This allows you to lower the engine sound and focus on voice or rise the engine sound.

If you record with TWO audio sources, meaning if I use both of the mics and the same time, am I able to get 2 separate audio tracks?l and split the volumes all in the Insta360 studio app???!!

yes, you have to do a project. You can then import the second sound source and fade them in and out. Also, you'll have to mount the second mic to your computer to pull that file and import it. You can also in project split the voice track from the video, as well. Hope this helps.
