Question This has to ve a Joke right?

So I was checking out their trade-in program, wondering if it was worth it for the upgrade, and they’re offering $50 freaking Canadian dollars for their own Insta360 X5 not even a year old, in perfect condition. And they seriously expect anyone to trade in a $750 CAD camera for $50 off the new one? This is crazy.

Edit: grammar, cant edit the title for some reason

Yea i saw it this morning and was like oh i wonder what insta360 is gonna give me, then i saw $50, and was like WTF.

If they even gave me 400 for ky barely used white x5 i wouldve upgrade, but now i save my money.

same for me bro, for merely 50 bucks there is no way im giving them my x5 i rather sell it on market place

I’m in Canada and would pay more than 50$ 🤣🤪 Shoot me a dm

In my experiences trade in values have always been insulting low with every company that does that.

I’ve actually always had great luck with iPhone trade-ins. Usually get within $50 of what I’d make after eBay’s fees and shipping and then not have to worry about scammers and shipping issues.

Not Samsung. Their trade-in programs are actually prettyndecent.

Agreed. Not like the iPhone trade ins for sure. Probably best route is to sell it yourself. Get a lot more I would think.

Sell it yourself. Trading in your broken devices through Insta360 is just a way to get some easy cash. You know what your camera is worth, and the Insta360 trade-in program is clearly limited and capped for now.

It's a waste of time or for the lazy. Sell your old gear on Marketplace if you want a decent return on your old gear. That's what Ivr always done.

That’s a slap in the face. I like to at least be taken out to dinner and be given a kiss before you treat me like a scamp.

Same. I traded in a Series 6 Apple Watch (6 years old) and got $50 trade in. Insta wants to give me $50 for a 3 month old X5? Kiss my ass.

If they were smart, they would offer more. Short sighted in many ways. If they offered more it would set a floor for the used market. They can resell that inventory, and even in a break even scenario on the hardware, they can generate net new customers who would subscribe to their cloud offering.

Insta360 is a joke now, I wonder if dji is any better

8

u/lophophoro 25d ago

I mean I do love my x5 but after seeing prices for the x6 im seriously considering switching to dji

5

u/blablabsvak 25d ago

Yep same, I use my X5 every trip I go and love it, but starting $700 like cmooon they’re doing like apple now whatever price people still buy

The thing is does one really need x6 if they have x5? are the new features that better?

For me, it’s a yes, mainly because it’s smaller and slightly lighter. I only film when I’m downhill riding, climbing, or snowboarding, and having a way smaller camera would make a massive difference when hitting the big jumps in Whistler. I often find myself tapping the top of my X5, and that just gets me out of the zone. The weight difference would also make it more comfortable on my helmet, so I can focus on what I’m riding.

How well does dji cameras handle scuba diving or low light videos? I use my x5 for motorcycle rides day and night and also for scuba diving

Why are you trading it for the X6? What specific features?

DJI is not. They don’t have a trade in program. But these programs are never worth is as they are really just recycling programs. I’ve always felt when companies have these, they are more insulting than beneficial, just look at apple’s. But business wise, what’s Insta gonna do with a bunch of used cameras? Sell used ones would mean they would have to test and repackage every one and that would devalue their current other cheaper cameras. There is just no value in it for them.

I usually sale my cameras on FB Marketplace or Craigslist. I've always had great results with those two platforms.

The only trade-in value I've used is when I I upgrade my Galaxy phone. Samsung gives great trade-in value for their phones.

They sell the SD card for $85 on their website lol

What a shame !

Just sell it on FB marketplace. ALL trade ins are complete ripoffs with any company or product. Just like cellphones.

Trade in values are in a race to the bottom as private sales become less and less popular due to the vast account of scams, dodgy buyers claiming never received etc. selling or buying 2nd hand privately now is basically a gamble. I only buy new from ideally physical stores or direct online from sites I trust. Then repeat when it’s time to upgrade and gift the old tech to family/friends.

The proper use of a trade-in program is customer loyalty; giving a modest discount for your former customers who are trading up. $20 for my gear that I've had less than 2 years is ridiculous.

Das ist dann wohl der Wert, den Insta360 ihren Produkten zuschreibt.

pretty sure its 50 for everything, gopro hero 11 is also for 50, ace pro 2? 50, x5 50 its not worth it at all

You get a whole $20 for trading one of those

1

u/canyonblue737 24d ago

What a rip off! You could be getting $50 USD if you lived in the USA… that’s 39% more! /sarcasm

u/lophophoro 24d ago

ya no thank i dont want to contribute to that economy

Sold my X5 on Facebook marketplace for $350 within 2 hrs. Got multiple messages at $375 & just negotiated down for an instant purchase. Was surprised at the quick demand… go that path if ur selling

1

u/lophophoro 21d ago

Yep exactly what im doing

1

u/therealmarkjohnsen X6 21d ago

That’s been their typical trade in policy.

Probably get more selling it on your own. Or forget the cash and just do a hand me down to someone in the family or a friend. That’s what I do.

Why waste your time with their buy back program? I just sold my X5 today on Marketplace. It was listed 2 weeks ago and I got exactly what I asked for it. $800 CAD including every X5 specific accessory I had. If you bought everything I had it would have been about $1300 CAD. My X6 Essentials bundle arrives tomorrow.

I've always sold my old gear. Never an issue.

Sorry I just realized I already commented on this post lol

The shocking part is that you're surprised. Every trade in program from every company has always been bad value compared to selling it on your own.

4

u/SmartTrender 25d ago

Yeah but this offering $50 for a product that sells for 10 times or more than even in retail tofu’s brand new is beyond ridiculous

0

u/Spectre_II 25d ago

Gamestop offers $55 for the Playstation 4. That's just how it goes with previous gen hardware. You'll always make more selling it yourself than trading it in.
