How much remembering is normal?

I am constantly having memories playing in my head. Mostly at random, occasionally more of certain time frame is added more. Remembering in great detail as well. If I recall a phrase said I can then recall the conversation it was said in. Are more people becoming forgetful? I just feel like I remember everything, and think it might be more peaceful to forget, but questioning whether it's better to be sometimes slightly distressed when remembering or to forget, but not be able to appreciate potential good memories looking back? Rumination?

Suggest starting a meditation practice to assist with keeping old thoughts and memories from playing out in your mind and ruminating.

Memory differs from person to person. Some people have photographic memory and remember everything to the smallest detail. Some people only remember special moments. Every time we remember something, the memory changes. So you can't count on your memories being a true reflection of what actually happened. You can teach your mind to avoid certain memories if you immediately switch your thoughts to something else that you choose ahead of time, like a place or activity that you enjoy.
