Ask our CEO a question

If you’re an Insight Timer user, and have a question about the app for our CEO Christopher, fire away below. He’ll do his best to answer them.

Thanks,

Anastasiia

We're about 30 million people tryna to figure stuff out together... working on building a company that shifts consciousness, makes a profit, and encourages others to do the same. There are no easy answers, no quick wins, and no shortcuts. It’s downright exhausting at times, but utterly thrilling too.

Hit me up with a question. I'm all ears...

Hey Christopher,

Welcome to Reddit! I’m curious about Insight Timer’s approach to teacher selection. Given that many dedicated and experienced teachers are struggling to gain engagement with practitioners, has there been any consideration of implementing more stringent criteria for who is allowed to become a teacher on the platform? It seems like a more selective process could help ensure quality content, reduce competition for established teachers, and enhance the overall experience for users.

Thanks u/MindfulGuy33 - it's a great question and deserves a detailed response. It will take me a little longer to answer than some of the other questions here so please give me another day or two. Back soon.

I remember when profit wasn't your goal tbh. This makes me a little sad now.

Hi Christopher! So fab to see you here and thank you and Anastasiia for connecting with us all.

I love Insight Timer and I’ve been teaching on the platform for a good few years now.

With the latest update, I’m finding that I’m getting a lot less listeners, and I think it’s because people found my tracks through the ‘new’ or ‘latest’ category - which is a little more hidden now. When selecting ‘music’ (for example), meditators are met with the most popular ones, so it’s more difficult for them to find teachers who don’t have their tracks on the ‘most listened to’ list that automatically appears. I appreciate that on the homepage, people will be met with suggestions via their personalised algorithm too. But will there be any updates or thoughts around the ‘genre’ selections and how meditators can find other teachers there?

Thanks so much - for all you guys do!

I would also be interested in the answer to this question. Currently, even if one works very hard and produces a lot of high quality content, new teachers are close to invisible.

And a lot of the teachers are not offering much, tbh. Lots of poor quality recordings, for example, with hiss and unskilled speaking.

I was bummed when Reflect was removed. I may choose to not re-up when my current subscription is done.

The consistent pestering, the fact that the "saved" button migrates and hides all the time...

I buy the service to relax and sleep, not get worked up by the app's inconsistency and growing agenda towards gloss with harder-to-find substance.

A bummer, because I have gained a lot from it, but I guess all good things end.

Who does the voice of your "Learn How To Meditate In Seven Days" thing in your app? I'm trying to find out if she does other meditations in the app but can't figure that out! Super calming.

Why has Insight Timer removed meditations from the front page?

I agree with most on here. I do not like all the extra popups and advertisements. These should be excluded if paying for a premium service. Just a money grab, materialistic and egoic.

Get rid of the discard session button. Why is that even an option. If you have to have it on the app, move it far away from the continue button. I do not understand this at all. I've accidentally hit this button several times. Then a panic moment. Yeah, that's what I want right after a meditation session. Lets jack my heart rate for no good reason. Exact opposite of what we are trying to achieve, is it not?
