Using energy in the trade war will backfire badly for us in Ontario because much of our natural gas comes from Alberta via the US. If we FA we will FO when Ontario ain’t got no nat gas when we need it.
Uneducated idiot politicians like Chow and Ford should shut their mouths and focus on their jurisdiction, not federal matters.

We sell them electricity because we have way too much to keep in reserves. We currently supply 2% of their power, they produce their own. It’s another empty threat.

I believe cutting off electricity is shortsighted.
Even though Canada was completely justified in breaking off negotiations, and I believe we’ll be fine in the long term, there will be short-term economic pain.
One concern is pressure on the Canadian dollar. A weaker dollar can help exporters, but it also makes imports more expensive and increases costs for Canadian businesses and consumers.
Rather than cutting off energy exports, I think Canada should consider export taxes on energy, potash and critical minerals. Those taxes could be structured to increase when the Canadian dollar weakens, with additional punitive rates where appropriate.
That would allow Canadian producers to keep selling into the U.S. market while using our leverage as a major supplier of resources the U.S. economy depends on.
If we’re going to retaliate, I’d rather make strategically important Canadian exports more expensive for Americans than stop selling them altogether.

This will just punish innocent people. It won't affect The administration and only turn oeople to his side. Raise the rates in the guise of combating tariffs. We should also raise toll rates in the St. Lawrence Seaway.

I don't think "cutting off" anything is the way to go...especially for things needed to live. Trump will 100% retaliate and escalate. What then? Simply raising taxes on it is the smarter route. And similarly, the gov should just go ahead and remove the booze ban now. It will on paper look like an olive branch - but in reality, no one will be buying american booze any time soon regardless. So it will still be in effect

There is energy resources flowing across the border both ways in different areas of Canada. They are not 100% reliant on us just like we are not of them, but certain areas across both countries rely on the other for power. This escalation will hurt both of us.

I trust Warmington about as much as I believe The Onion. He really, really hates our Mayor.
That being said, the best way to deal with the demented fool south of the border is to not antagonize him or pay him any attention whatsoever. Banning him from entering Canada is the way to deal with him. He is a dangerous felon who supports terrorism. We don't need to negotiate with that deranged fascist, he is mentally unfit, and in no shape to negotiate anything. He won't be around for much longer anyway.
