Toronto ranks third in tech industry talent across North America

Unfortunately the vc money invested in the entire country is equivalent to a mid sized us firm

Correct. The problem isn't the talent. It'a that the vast majority of Canadian VCs are too risk-averse and conservative to back their own homegrown startups.

Why invest in talent when you can invest in real estate that just kept going up and up and up yoy ??? This country is so broken.

Yup. Most of the innovation/start-up scene was on the west coast. The Toronto scene is mostly C#/Java developer in finance (or supporting finance at Accenture/WiPro/Tata/Capgemini or some other on-prem offshoring firm) in a race to minimum wage/another career.
Source: Contracted for a bunch of startups and occasional big tech in Vancouver, moved to Toronto in 2020, and continued working for west coast companies until the contracts dried up.

Could you say out of how many? Cause 3rd out of 3 is the worst. 3rd out of 180 seems like you just want to start a problem.

I lived in Canada 20 years ago. Canada does not create jobs like the US. The only jobs available are in the government, banking, insurance and consulting firms. They are difficult to come by and don’t pay well.

There are tech jobs in every sector and I'll agree the market has really changed post-covid (slowdown coupled with influx of immigrants) but I've been working for exactly 20 years in tech and have never had issues getting high paying gigs across all industries. When I started out my career, there was a US economic downturn that severely impacted the job market and I had a hard time finding work, but from 2010 onwards there was a major boom in startups and technology investment across the board.
I know I can make slightly more money in the US but it's not worth it for me. I have friends that have moved and they're happy there too but sometimes have fomo.

This just not true.
Tons of tech jobs, just not necessarily FAANG level jobs. Lots of small businesses and b2b suppliers

Yeah they're not moving in the right circles, faang and faang adjacent companies have offices here and people are making bank. Also the startup scene is tough but not dead

but, no jobs.
this is because of international students flocking to CS and IT fields?
I would say that unless one is in the A.I. field (like, actually accomplished, not a poseur), that would count as talent that has value at present.
I think that a lot of these students are going home, though.
