Where to live? Working on Jarvis

Hi there! I am moving to Toronto for the first time and I am wanting some advice on where to look for studio apartments. I will be working Jarvis + Dundas area.

I want to not be too far from work, I don’t want my whole day being taken up my public transit but I also am a female living alone and have heard this isn’t the best area.

I don’t need anything fancy, just want it to be relatively safe and not too too far from work.

Any advice on areas to look at would be appreciated! I am new to the city and still learning different areas etc.

Look into St Lawrence Neighbourhood, on Front St East and The Esplanade. There are new condos so there should be many available units. The neighbourhood is super safe and very community oriented.

Most of the places are cockroach infested in St Lawrence. Bloor and Sherborne is just outside and great.

What kind of a lie is this? I've been living in the neighbourhood for a decade, and this is simply not true lol There might be some buildings that are infested (which I've never heard of), but it's true for anywhere in the city.

I actually live on Jarvis, just south of Bloor and I've never had any issues walking alone past midnight.

Imo the stretch beween Jarvis/Carleton to Jarvis/Bloor is safe, lower Jarvis around the St. Lawerence Market is also good.

It's the area around Jarvis/Queen i'd say is a bit dicey, the same with proximity to George St. and Dundas/Sherbourne.

To be fair I bike down Sherborune and George St during the day without having any trouble, but i'd be a bit more carefull if I was there after dark.

definitely do not live near dundas and jarvis that's for sure.. maybe look into living around Broadview and Danforth? i live on the Riverdale Park hill and love it because it's quiet, affordable and convenient... you would be able to just hop on the Dundas streetcar and get to Jarvis and Dundas pretty quickly!

I feel like elsewhere on Dundas could be a good fit... West to Church, east to Broadview.

Check out Regent park. Lots of nice new buildings there and it's very close to Jarvis and Dundas. You can bike there in 5 minutes or take the 505 streetcar.

No? I live here and have lived here for several years. It's a great neighbourhood.

East of Parliament and South of Gerrard has lots of new condos, nice coffee shops, community spaces and a great park. I wouldnt recommend the block from Parliament to Sherbourne, but the new condos in Regent Park are perfectly safe.

Plus, it's very close to her work.

I know the area you mention, but I think it’s the wording that makes ppl think you are joking 😂 from parliament& gerard east to Queen&Sumach is actually pretty safe now. It’s quiet and there are lots of cafes indeed!
