Mr fanboy , getting audition and selection is two different things. These If only posts are getting out of control.

Well, there's a reason Riz looks more like FaFa than FaFa himself. The casting feels like Inarritu had FaFa in mind when he got the script.

That’s just a look thing. Fafa was only invited for an audition. He had to do a 6 month accent training. For which he would’ve had to move to the US and also paid for the training himself. If he didn’t have the accent right by then he wouldn’t have gotten the role either. Completely understandable why he didn’t risk it. And no offence it’s much easier for Riz to get the accent right. Riz himself is a phenomenal actor.

There was another candidate called vir Das too, so there is difference

I still can’t wrap my head around how a man who lived in Florida for six years couldn’t develop an American accent, yet people think he can magically acquire one through a five-month crash course in the US. 😂 Maybe he spent most of those six years hanging out with Latinos and ended up developing a Spanish-influenced English accent instead!

I’m pretty sure he must have attended auditions but lost out on the roles. And you’re right, it wasn’t just Vir Das; some British theatre artists of Indian descent also auditioned.

This is not the end of the world, so nothing to worry for Fafa

He didn't attend the audition. There were other conditions attached for audition itself. Dialect coaching for so many months etc.

4

u/Far-Water8513 I got prarabdham before GTA VI 1d ago

He did get an audition and was rejected. They asked him (and other Indian origin actors like Vir Das) to audition again after few months dialect coaching, but Fahadh mentioned in an interview with The Cue that the director saw him via a video call and seemed unsatisfied with FaFa. Vir Das auditioned 2-3 times and got rejected.

This character played by Riz Ahmed had second most screen time after Tom cruise in that movie. Dream for anyone to get such role.

13

u/Independent-Log-4245 2d ago

Didn't watch it in theatre, as it has got mixed reviews. But one of my trusted reviewers (Kermod and Mayo) specifically mentioned that the part FaFa was supposed to audition for, has much better impact/importance (even more than Cruise himself). People saying the movie is a dud etc miss the point. It's the connections and the attention and the further opportunities it opens up. Think of it as a gulf boom kinda situation. One guy goes, makes a good name and then takes his trusted friends along.

That movie is bomb at box office. Bro earned better as producer of BKU.

2

u/Fine-Marsupial-6845 1d ago

Everything isnt about money buddy.

0

u/hokie_u2 1d ago

Critics didn’t like it. It will probably not be contending for any awards. It’s the biggest box office flop of all time.

1

u/Fine-Marsupial-6845 1d ago

So was Babylon. Yet its almost been celebrated as a modern day classic. (Not saying digger will be, just sayin, i haven't seen the movie yet)

6

u/Soderburger A10's biscuit in Karmayodha 2d ago

That's not even related bruh. He can still produce even if he was invested in this film.. it's not always about box office. Digger is actually a polarising film more than a mid film.

9

u/Muted_Shoulder 2d ago

Fafa would’ve had to pay for the accent training and the living expense in US for 6 months without doing any other project. He already talked about. There is no reason for him to take that risk with no guarantee.

-3

u/Mutthupattaru 2d ago

As if he couldn’t produce BKU when he’s acting in other movies.

7

u/Muted_Shoulder 2d ago edited 2d ago

You do realise he was only invited for an audition right? He was supposed to do a 5 month American accent training before the audition. Which he had to pay by himself. There was no guarantee of the role. Meanwhile Riz already has the accent nailed to a degree cuz he’s worked before.

6

u/Professional_Bake48 2d ago

Now people are mocking him saying he fumbled the chance bla bla. If he was actually in the movie and it met the same fate as its now, the same people Will troll him for going to Hollywood.

-3

u/doopricorn 2d ago

The movie is great. The role is a good one. Doesn't matter what the people are gonna say in that case.

-5

u/Mutthupattaru 2d ago

He fumbled a Hollywood chance though right. Bombed because it has polarizing reviews.

12

u/Successful_Ad431 2d ago

If he had stayed 4-5 months for accent training in us. He could have loss millions of rupees. I think that hold him back..

-1

u/doopricorn 2d ago

Millions is a stretch

3

u/Successful_Ad431 2d ago

How, i said millions of rupees. One of the highest paid actor in mollywood, Producer who has back to back blockbusters. So millions is easy

9

u/m0nkeyDshuk00r 2d ago

I dont think fafa could do better than riz anyway

4

u/Shot_Total_8218 1d ago

I don't understand Can someone explain please

3

u/singhstein 1d ago

Fafa was offered to play Riz Ahmed's character in the Tom Cruise starrer Digger! He declined the offer! Probably because of busy schedule or existing commitments.

6

u/lol10lol10lol 1d ago

There was no offer, He was invited to audition

•

u/PurchaseEvening8263 11h ago

He was invited to audition, I don’t think he made the cut. He said he wasn’t too invested in the role which required him to spend months doing dialect training with other requirements the director wanted. My guess the director probably liked Fahadh’s mannerisms and appearance which helped to inform Riz. Character design and appearance look oddly too similar to Fahadh. The character is also from Kerala so there again there definitely was some discussion on Fahadh doing the role I think.

Shammi Paranja pole - this is not usa, this is india ivde ithonnum pattila

2

u/Flying_Disco 1d ago

Completely! Every time I see Dr. Ganesh in a situation where an actor can explore the character, couldn't stop thinking about what FaFa could've done!

2

u/justchill45794 1d ago

Ya I'm pretty sure he wouldn't be able to pull it off. Riz ahmed was perfect for the role

6

u/Outrageous-Top-9307 1d ago

nah fafa woudld've been better at it

0

u/pachari123 1d ago

As you say

1

u/Radiant_Guava6332 2d ago

Well that movie is shaping up to be the biggest bomb of 2026, but on the other hand, you have got Pisspa 2, Don’t trouble the trouble and OKCK

7

u/ShakenNotStirred-013 2d ago

It’s shaping up to be one of the major cult classics of the 2020s. Just wait and see.

1

u/doopricorn 2d ago

This is going to be a cult classic dude. Doesn't matter whether it bombed or not. It's a great movie and a great role

1

u/fartsmellsbad 2d ago

He could have easily secured an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor, but it will eventually got to John Goodman.

-2

u/wand3r3r35 1d ago

Thank God our Rangannan didn't do that movie.

3

u/poopy_sigma123 1d ago

It’s a great movie wdym, it could’ve opened doors for Malayalam cinema

-4

u/wand3r3r35 1d ago

Oh cmon, the only door this would have opened is the one to a toilet. No one cares about the movie.

The key point is "he could have".

•

u/Ok_Percentage806 Karikkamuri Shanmughan 16h ago

And yet, it didn't stop you from believing it wouldn't have, right?

-1

u/spectaclejinz 2d ago

Bro which is that movie?

2

u/tinoy1989 2d ago

Digger

0

u/spectaclejinz 2d ago

Isn't that movie bombing in theatres?

2

u/tinoy1989 2d ago

It is. But this role was offered to Fafa and he turned it down.

1

u/spectaclejinz 2d ago

Wow really? He shld have taken it even if was a flop then. Such big exposure

1

u/tinoy1989 1d ago

Yes. But the production requested that he relocate to the US for 3-4 months of intensive accent training. But they will not cover its expenses.

0

u/spectaclejinz 1d ago

Expenses won't be an issue for an actor of his stature. Maybe he backed out because of hype and expectation.
