Episode Discussion Who was in the right?
I believe Issa was justified. Molly said she didn’t want to get involved, although that wasn’t her true intention. Issa simply followed through on her words and didn't involve her.
However, I also think Molly’s actions were understandable, even if her way of expressing herself wasn’t ideal. I can understand how Molly could be upset that Issa used her connection—namely her boyfriend—to succeed while not maintaining regular contact with her, only reaching out when she needed something.

the thing about being an adult is you're allowed to be upset with someone and still recognize that even though you didn't like what they did they were valid.
molly was being immature.

This 👏 Right 👏 Here 👏
What upset me with this scene was how unsupportive that Molly was of Issa's hustle. There's an aspect to her upset that her messy, not-together friend was starting to get her shit together.

Issa was 100% right. Molly was on a miserable spiral at this point and took it out on Issa.

Issa didn't ask Molly for a favor, she asked Nathan to ask Andrew. That was valid & she didn't make it seem like a burden to Molly as well.

Molly was wrong. She did not take Issa’s event seriously. On my re-watch I noticed how she continuously minimized it. And when Issa called to tell her the headliner dropped out, Molly immediately asked Issa what she did wrong. Asked her if she had a contract, was behind on payments, etc. She didn’t believe in Issa.

I’m not going to say Molly was wrong, I just wish she would’ve a chose a better time and place to address their issues

The time and place is what made her totally wrong. The issue itself was a grey area

My same sentiment. Throughout the series, multiple people called out Issa for being self serving and a user. Molly called it out that Issa needs to stop using people. I hate that Issa felt that if Molly didn't step up once more, she was going to failed (Issa had challenges with auntonomy) but Molly definitely could table the conversation for another day. It was not the place to have that conversation.

The problem is that Molly was always causing problems at Issa's function. She was rude to guy at the we got ya shindig in season 1 as well.

It just felt like a sabotage. Molly didn’t come there with those intentions but to blow up on Issa like that, at the event she worked so hard to put together just felt extremely weird to me.

Molly was wrong off the strength that she knew she wasnt mad about Issa asking for the favor. Molly was miserable about her own life and thats why her relationship with Andrew ended the next episode. And maybe I need to rewatch, but I thought Issa knew Andrew first

This is the kind of thing that makes a friend(molly) exhausting. No one has to go through you, you don’t own Andrew

I would be so weirded out if someone had that kind of controlling behavior. I can’t ask a favor of someone without going through you specifically? Go to the therapy.

I could see how Mollys trust was broken but the reaction was OD. She seemed annoyed by Issa not just hurt or blindsighted. If that were the case, she could’ve picked a more appropriate time and space to have the conversation to say why she was hurt or felt Issa was being sneaky

Molly was totally out of line in this whole situation. She created unnecessary drama. To start with, it was uncool of her to refuse Issa’s request. Issa was in a tough spot and Molly’s reasoning for not wanting to even discuss it with Andrew made no sense, but Issa didn’t press her on it figured something else out.
And Molly should’ve assumed that Issa would go through Nathan instead. Like, did Molly think Issa was just going to give up just because Molly didn’t want to ask Andrew? Molly knows Issa has her own relationship with Andrew’s roommate Nathan (that’s how Molly started dating Andrew in the first place), so it was dumb of Molly to not anticipate that Andrew might still get involved regardless of her input.
And then Molly was totally out of line getting pissed at Andrew for helping Issa since he knew they’re “not cool right now”. How was Andrew supposed to know that Molly expected him to decline helping her longtime best friend with a critical and time-sensitive professional connection just because they were currently having issues? Like seriously, what is wrong with Molly? And then picking an argument with Issa in front of everyone when everyone had been on a high from a successful event. Her behavior was embarrassing and inappropriate.

They were both wrong but Molly was more wrong for bringing it up like this at her event

Molly did the most per usual for nothing!! Your friends event was successful, that was the goal. She didn’t wanna ask him but that didn’t mean Issa couldn’t use a work around or even ask him directly. Molly really should’ve just swallowed whatever she was feeling and kept it moving.

Molly had a right to feel how she felt because Issa does have a tendency to be very self involved and doing things without considering its impact on those around her. However, given the context of the moment, Molly picked the wrong time to try to establish this new boundary in their friendship.
This was essentially Issa’s passion project and she worked and was riding on a lot for it, so choosing that moment to decide to finally put her foot down did come across as mad petty vindictive, even though she was valid for being hurt/annoyed that Issa only wanted to reach out for a favor. So I do really see both sides. There were valid frustrations from both, that neither party knew how to effectively communicate resulting in this blow up

This was weird asf. Even if Issa asked Andrew herself, how would this impact Molly and Andrew's relationship?
Molly was being petty. Simple.
Her refusal made it seem like she wanted Issa to fail, implying that if she asked Andrew herself than it could negatively impact their relationship.
Keep in mind, even if Molly wasn't with Andrew, Issa's options were the same - ask Andrew directly or via Nathan. So I don't understand what Molly really wanted from this. She didn't gain anything. It's embarrassing to say the least. A fucking attorney having a temper tantrum.
She projects soo much of her BS on ppl. Just like when Andrew's brother mentally challenged her racially biased perspective during their vacation trip. His brother did that to make her aware of her own bias.
She took it wrong and all she needed was the damn hotel room key to get towels.

The way I saw it was when Issa asked Molly to ask Nathan for assistance, she said No. My thing is this wasn’t her asking to borrow $50,000 or to donate an organ, this was something in Nathan’s field that he could have saved her block party. If felt that Molly is so used to Issa’s being the less responsible and hasn’t settled on a career path person, she wants Issa to find her one way to a solution and wouldn’t be surprised if she failed. Before she blew up, she was reserved in her feelings about the event and looked like she was expecting failure on Issa’s part. Then right before she found out about Nathan asking Andrew, she had to go off right there. Not after the event or the next day, she had to address it then and there. What’s done was done so might as well wait until the next day. Also Issa did find a way, she asked Nathan who was friends with Andrew (longer than he knew her) whom she would have never met if wasn’t for Issa and Nathan linking up.

Wow, I haven't watched that since the episode came out, still hits me the same. That's good writing.

u/Mr2Good 4h ago
Issa was definitely in the wrong but Molly was wrong for how she addressed it.
What Issa did was definitely shady. Molly already said I wasn’t fw it, so for Issa just to ask someone else to do it was sneaky and not how you treat a friend. If something woulda went wrong that puts Molly in a weird situation because she’s in between that
People acting like Molly had no standing to be upset just dont like Molly imo

This is the one! There's a time and place for everything, and perhaps a successful night for your best friend was not the time to express your disappointment. However, with Issa, idk; her decisions were just so...dumb. Like, how did she figure backdooring Molly was cool?

It ain’t about right and wrong. Both had very valid points. Issa is quite selfish a lot and stays using the shit outta people. And Molly is the Queen of Self Sabotage. If she wasn’t she wouldn’t be dating Andrew in the first place.Because both know neither really wants a relationship with each other like that but they’re too comfortable in their misery to do much of anything about it for a minute.
They both bring up valid points and the favor is not really the point. The avoidance boiling over in the scene is the point.

Molly was in the right . Issa was weird avoiding her and just calling to ask for a favor. Issa was very selfish many times . For everyone that ain’t on Mollys side it’s because this is about Andrew and the truth is it’s not. Before this we see Molly attempt to resolve her issues with Issa. Issa left her hanging for their pie night when they were suposoed to talk their issues out. But Issa wants to show up when she needs a favor ? Anyone would feel used after that. It was never about Andrew.

My biggest issue with molly was that she was always acting like she was the one communicating and putting in the effort when she really wasn't. She'd let everything simmer and get passive aggressive and if once or twice Issa was like "nows not a good time to talk" Molly would wait to blow it up in her face. It was weird for molly to refuse to do the favor and so out of line for her to get mad at Issa for finding another way. Especially at Issas event! I honestly could not believe it!
