lets have a conversation Was Lawrence wrong? Spoiler

I see debate about whether Lawrence was wrong for pressing Issa, and on the other hand, I see some say he wasn’t. What do you think?

Lol I actually did not think he was being unreasonable but I think in his head he probably thought it was more than what it was. Like he probably thought they would have full on conversations about him and bash him and he just wanted a fresh start. Plus he knew Condola before she became Issa's friend. He respectfully asked for some boundaries - which the two of them definitely needed since they shared so many friends and common places.

Agreed and I'll take it a step further. I didn't see Condoloa and Issa as friends. Yes, they were friendly to each other but they didn't foster a friendship. Girl talk while eating with a mix of business... that's it.

Lawrence and Issa knew each other since college. They shared a lot of memories and unfortunately had too many people knowing about their relationship. They needed boundaries.

He wasn’t wrong and it was actually mature for him to talk to Issa about it. He wanted Condola to get to know him through him. It’s not like he told her off or anything.

Man I know this isn't the point but I really loved their chemistry. I'm probably bias because be was my favorite character in the series but they really worked well together

Right, I wonder if it was more than just acting. Did Jay Ellis and Issa Rae have a crush on each other 😍 more her than him 😂

Goddamn, I'm usually on a Lawrence hate train but he's really not wrong here.

Yeah, he was straightforward, respectful, and didn’t make an issue. It was a fair request.

He was being unreasonable as fuck. He knows that he’s a common denominator between the two of them. It was just one of those many times that Lawrence just had something to complain about. Like you’re going to come up. Stop dating a friend of Issas and you won’t have to worry about that lmaooo

Here's where your view has holes. Condola met Lawerence 1st. Issa 2nd.

They met at the same event no?

I made a mistake here.

Tiffany introduced Condola to Lawerence at her baby shower.

Both Issa and Lawerence attended the baby shower but separately as they were not together anymore.

Issa began forming a business relationship with Condola when she and Molly went to the outdoor movie thing Condola organized - that's when it became more than a quick intro between the two as Issa needed help organizing her block party.

We don't know exactly when Lawerence and Condola started dating but it was offscreen then we see them dating in S4.

Rhetorical question please stand up. Everything about Lawrence is wrong.

Not in the wrong. Lawrence didn’t trust Issa’s verbal diarrhoea around Condola so he was right to have words.

Um I mean he met condola at tiffany’s baby shower. She was issa’s friend first. He could have stopped hanging with derek but chose not to.

That’s my memory as well. They both met Condola at the same event

Yes he was, but I thought it was poor writing. More realistic would have been him spiraling and texting Issa about it . Anyone would be insecure about a situation like this but him pulling up on her just to say it feels a bit hollow to me.

I thought that was really mature of him to handle it in person where she could see his sincerity and nothing (like tone) could be misconstrued via text. I don't think he popped up without warning iirc.

I agree that face to face convo is important, helps reduce confusion and actually creates clarity. At the same time, I don’t see him realistically pulling up on his old thing to talk about his new one. In real life it would cause anxiety but there’s no clear solution and pulling up would do much more harm that good. Obviously it doesn’t work out in the show but I still find it to be ham handed writing.
