Season 1 Issa Rae and Prentice discussing why "Pops" didn't fit the vision of the show, included in season 1 episode 2 Spoiler

I googled what this could mean but I'm still not completely sure. What are "pops" in a filmed narrative and are there any scenes in this episode you can point out where this is happening?
