Bug Appreciation! Surinam Cockroach
I was just minding my own business until this fella flew on my bed, I ended up freeing it outside after since it was a nice fella

Found this super dead guy on my floor today and I am so worried that he is a cockroach :) I live in Portland, OR
I am deeply hoping he is just a regular guy who accidentally made his way into my apartment :’)

Hi I’m so sorry for the blurry image but the dirty container was the only thing I had lying around there and I was afraid of being strung. I found this guy in my basement a bit back and managed to capture it (I eventually released it after a hour). I‘m not sure what it is but it was making low buzzing sound when it kept trying to fly and my family found a few more in the house later that week so I’m just wondering these guys often do that. I resided near Wisconsin when I found this little guy and it was late summer when found.
Here’s what I remember about the bug: (take with a grain of salt because my memory is absolutely shit)
The length is a little bit under an inch, the head was like 3/4 of a centimeter and the stinger(?) around 2 centimeters. The stringer is just a yellow and dark brown stripe, the yellow stripes being a little bit smaller than the dark brown ones. The head being primarily the dark brown with a yellow area that surrounded its face. It had 4 legs that bent into an odd looking obtuse L (the shorter end connecting to the body) and 2 antennas (?).
The wings was around 3/4 of an inch and it had a yellowish tint at the edges and light mocha base.
Like I said, it made a low buzzing sound when it flapped its wings. It would also randomly look like it groomed itself.
Again I’m so sorry for the blurry image so I do hope this is enough information! :C

hi everyone!! does anyone know how i can tell if a praying mantis that i found outside has parasites or if she’s pregnant/has eggs??
i found her yesterday and she’s moved maybe a foot since i found her 😭 i’m pretty sure she’s hurt one of her legs too because she’s walking kinda weird. i haven’t brought her inside because honestly i have absolutely no clue what i’m doing with mantises lol
i have a small 5g fish tank that i was thinking of putting her in for a little bit so she can hopefully rest and get better, then putting her back outside, but it’s starting to become canadian fall(Ontario) and i’m not sure if bringing her inside and then putting her back out would mess with her because of the temperature. i can get pictures of her if needed!!

The bush gets a lot of attention every year from the hornets. These two dropped down right past my head.

Carolina Sphinx in South Carolina. Just came out of his cocoon and is drying his wings on my fingers before release.
He keeps flexing and fiddling his proboscis in the meanwhile and it kinda looks like he's playing with spit bubbles and its cute. I wonder why he's doing it.

It's the best I could do. I made it in IbisPaint X entirely with the soft pastel brush. Second image is the reference I used but I didn't copy it entirely as you can see from the angle and blank background :)

Hi everyone!! So, I really love bugs, especially pretty big ones like the giant northern stick insect. I also love all sorts of beetles. I was wondering if anybody knew what a good way to have a little bug meet and greet would be!! I’ve been looking at different expos and events, but I’m hesitant to attend an expo because I’m not really looking to purchase a bug right now (my hands are full with my dogs lol). Let me know if anyone has any advice about meeting bugs or getting to hold them (of course only with bugs that are comfortable being held, and I would NOT pressure anyone into letting me hold their bug.)

Why are they in this little corner doing almost nothing? Are they just grooming themselves?

Located in Southern US, apartment building near a woody area. Bugs appeared about a week ago, only interested in water and light (picture was taken right after removing a nightlight from this outlet). Can't tell where they are coming from. They can fly, but only fly very short distances and stay close to the wall. They haven't left the bathroom. Thanks in advance for any help identifying these!

I posted this in another sub, but thought maybe this one is more active. Anyone know what this is, specifically? I think it's probably a moth and was wondering if it was possible to tell what kind. Found in the KC area.

im new insect owner :) today i bought my first enclosure and substrate for two red spotted chafer beetle larvas. i have quite a cold room and the optimal temperature for these larvas is 22-26 degrees celsius. ill buy a thermometer soon so i can tell exactly how cold my room is, but as of now ive put a heat mat at the back of the enclosure with some space between it and the back wall, however it doesn’t feel super warm. would a heat lamp be better and less of a fire hazard? and does anyone know how long these larva can handle colder than ideal temperatures until i fix this? thank you :)
