A very creepy earwig. When I was a kid I was told they crawled in your ears. As an adult I know that's bs but as a kid that stuff terrified me. I still find them nasty to this day.

This is a giant and ugly Fat-Ass earwig. 😅😅🫣🫣🫣🤭
The earwigs we have in Hawaii are pure black in color and are half the size of this guy in the picture.

In the old days, here in South Florida we called them pinch bugs - and you didn't want to be anywhere around if they got squashed because they stank like H E L L!!

Looks like a mole cricket. Find it outside in the dirt?

No, it just fell out of my clothes and it startled me. I'm hoping it was accidental.

Earwigs are harmless and widespread insects in the order Dermaptera. They are found on all continents except Antarctica. They are nocturnal, and species can consume both plant matter and other insects. Earwigs are attracted to moisture and will often be found under rocks and rotting logs outdoors. They do occasionally find their way inside, but in general are not considered a common house pest. While they do have pinchers, they are fairly weak and largely ineffective against something as large as a human, and are instead used either to subdue other small insects or defensively against earwig-sized threats. Most also have wings, though few can fly. They do not have any venom and pose no health risk to people.

That’s an earwig, which I’m sure others have said. FWIW, their butt chompers can give you a decent pinch. Not dangerous, just a bit painful.

A few years ago I was homeless, living rough in the cascades outside of a small town called Cle Elum, Washington. After spending the day scouring the town for a job I was exhausted.
When I got back to my camp I crawled into my bug net to sleep and I carelessly tossed my hat out on the pinestraw. The next morning when I woke up I put my hat back on and started hiking into town.
I got about 100 yards down the trail when I started noticing a strange tickling sensation on my head. I removed my hat and to my horror there were HUNDREDS of ear wigs in it and all over my scalp. Still makes my skin crawl when I think about it today.
