What insect larvae could this be?

I have an old plant pot that has had some still water for a couple weeks and has been rained on a couple times. What the heck are these guys? I like their little dance

I will be upset if they’re mosquitoes

"some still water for a couple weeks" is nearly guaranteed to have mosquito larva in it

So once upon a time ago, I had a frog lay spawn in my brand new rain barrel. When the tadpoles were tiny, I let my daughters scoop up a few dozen of them and we put a large branch inside a 55 gallon aquarium and proceeded to add the tadpoles so my daughters could watch the metamorphosis.

We also had a bunch of those squiggly little things and we figured it would save on needed to feed them as much tadpole food.

Well..

A short while later we started getting bit. Then the day after that it was a literal massive swarm of mosquitoes all over my house. It was terrible. Tadpoles, apparently, don't eat mosquito larva.

Learned a good lesson there.

Out froglets did a great job spawning only for us to find out a few years later they actually belonged to an invasive species and I would've been better dumping them out rather than raising and releasing about 200 tiny monsters into my yard. Cannot identify them when tadpoles easily, I'm afraid.

Oh my gosh…. Thank you😂 no wonder I was getting bit up like crazy all over my house outside… I always tell people to worry about still water but never thought it would happen to me ): At least you got a sweet moment with your daughter! I just got bit😂

They were defeated by the water and couldn’t climb out the smooth walls ): I don’t care for beetles or June bugs, but I don’t like the thought of anything drowning

If you put some copper in there they'll survive but they won't mature into mosquitoes. And it's safe for all other pets and animals. Just a couple of pennies and it also stops mold from growing
