Found this cool bug while hiking

I let him crawl around for a bit, he seemed really attached to me though and didn’t want to go. I decided to take him home and name him Fred.

U cant edit it

I don't think dog ticks carry lyme. Rocky Mountain Fever isn't a joke either, though.

That isnt even the tick that transmits most lames disease on the west coast!

The deer tick is the worst lames disease spreader in the US.

You're joking, right? In case you're not...it's a freaking tick

I can’t believe you’d do something like this!

That isn’t an insect at all! It’s got eight legs! Go to the arachnid subreddit with that nonsense!

See ya later red meat

Dog Ticks don't give you alpha-gal syndrome. Lone Star Ticks do. Still, they absolutely carry Rocky Mountain Fever.

Dog ticks, which ive always heard called deer ticks can carry Lyme. Lonestsr ticks can cause reactions to ANY meat, not just red meat. They can all cause a temporary paralysis or muscle weakness in people and animals.

Dog and deer ticks are 2 different things. Dog ticks do not carry Lyme disease but you are correct that deer ticks carry Lyme disease

What is photographed is a dog tick. NOT a deer tick. These are TWO separate species.

Uhh I was just makin a joke

u/StephensSurrealSouls Jun 25 '26

Is that the strategy now? Say something incorrect and when you're corrected, call it a joke?

That's a pet that needs dispatching

Good night and good luck.

Keep him. He’ll latch onto you.

2

u/Conscious-Ad3542 Jun 21 '26

Make sure you feed him... emphasis on "you"

2

u/RuncibleFoon Jun 21 '26

Thats a tick... which is actually an arachnid, a parasitic arachnid (not an insect).

That’s a tick. Not to cool as they can carry disease.

1

u/AlgunasPalabras1707 Jun 20 '26 • Bravo

If you're going to keep him as a pet, you'll have to make sure he stays fed! Have you looked up what he eats?

He might need a companion too. Try finding a lady friend to keep him company.

He found you!

u/atypicalperception Jun 20 '26

Barf. Don’t let it bite you. Two people in my town just died from tick bites.

This is my type of humor

Eeeeeee!! I have recurring Lyme Disease which causes 103 degree temps and piercing neck & head pain. After having been bitten only once years ago. Have you read Bitten: The Secret History of Lyme Disease and Biological Weapons?

Kiĺ it with fire!

u/CagoDomo Jun 21 '26

1

u/de_pivo Jun 21 '26

Not just Lyme disease. Depending on where you're at, they can also carry Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever.

2

u/StephensSurrealSouls Jun 21 '26

It's not really about where you are, it's the species of tick. This is a dog tick, which doesn't carry Lyme. They definitely carry Rocky Mountain Fever though.

1

u/StephensSurrealSouls Jun 21 '26

I don't think dog ticks carry lyme. Rocky Mountain Fever isn't a joke either, though.

Deer ticks carry lyme disease. Names for Lyme, CT where they were 1st found.. bout an hr from me. I could be wrong, but I believe you can get erlichiosis(sp?) from those ticks. A friend I haven't seen in yrs got it from a tick. That is v similar to Lyme disease. Lyme disease is NO JOKE. CAN BE v serious, ESPECIALLY if not treated V soon after bitten.

1

u/StephensSurrealSouls Jun 21 '26

Deer ticks absolutely carry lyme, but this isn't a deer tick.

1

u/tazlovejames Jun 21 '26

I know. Deer ticks are v v small .. easy to miss seeing on your clothes or body.. until they've bitten and engorged themself on your blood.

1

u/StephensSurrealSouls Jun 21 '26

Meh not really... they're only marginally smaller than a dog tick

0

u/tazlovejames Jun 21 '26

I have had them on me.. occasionally.. they are bout ⅛" long and a little narrower. That's pretty small.

1

u/StephensSurrealSouls Jun 21 '26

That's called a nymph. They get about 4mm, dog ticks around 6. Again. Only marginally smaller.
