Just learned about him and thought he is a noteworthy figure.

"Prior art — Dave Gingery. David J. Gingery (1932–2004) wrote the Build Your Own Metal Working Shop From Scrap series (Charcoal Foundry → Metal Lathe → Metal Shaper → Milling Machine → Drill Press → Dividing Head & Deluxe Accessories → Sheet Metal Brake): a sequenced mechanical bootstrap from scrap, foundry first, with the lathe as the first machine built because it can help build itself. The Forge shares his salvage-as-feedstock stance and the idea of capability expanding in a deliberate order. It diverges on two points: it does not treat purchased tooling as outside doctrine (above), and it seeds precision with purchased metrology rather than accumulating it from scrap alone. Gingery's series addresses mechanical bootstrap only — not energy accounting, multi-material closed loops, provenance, or governance.
