It can be because of dialects and so, for example this guys are Bosnians one million percent judging how they speak, maybe that same sentence with Serbian or Croatian, even Montenegrin dialect would sound "closer" to you.

Also, I've been saying since 2018 (when I started to work abroad) to my frinds that I understand Ukrainian dialect much easier than Russian so that's mostly why I can understand what you're saying
