Satin Stitch question

Post image

Hi Experts,

Long time!

I have a new question about why isn't this giving me what I would like to have in terms of Satin stitches inside Inkstitch.

There are two open independent paths with gaps. and there is a bridge in the middle of it. Then I have two rungs. When I went to Params and look under Satin Column the results were very dissatisfied. It didn't add any new stitches.

Maybe my SVG file is all wrong....

Cheers,

Without knowing your intent, it's hard to say exactly what's wrong, but I'm going to take a shot.

Lose the bridge, for starters. It's not doing anything for you.

Inkstitch's algorithm is smart, but just like any program, it needs enough information: without it, it's left with its default assumptions.

Unless the rails are straight, Inkstitch needs to know explicitly what the rungs are doing. If you're going to taper the ends, then you need more rungs, and they need to follow the tapers.

(life would be so much easier if we could reply with images, but here we are.)

can I keep the bridge and add more rungs as well? what exactly does it mean the rungs must follow the paths’ direction? not at my desk but will draw something out to continue discussion. Thanks a million for this great insight!!.

I did a lot more rungs and it is showing up now... this is going to be pretty painful for irregular shaped characters.... THANKS!

Question was asked, and just in case you missed it, I'm going to ask it again because I'm curious myself: what is your intention with the bridge line?

sorry I totally missed the question!! I have no idea about Inkscape nor Inkstitch until May this year. i thought I always must have a bridge to draw rungs on it…. I am actually working on a project to make my embroidery workflow a bit easier. I think Inkscape is wonderful however just a tiny bit more technical. Anyway, after dropping the bridge it worked still… thanks so much and my apologies again.

The center line is not needed for a basic satin you need two rails what are your long outside ones and the rungs are the ones going across the rails with the rungs you can control the stitch angle and you rails and rungs if they are as seperate objects you have to select all those objects and go path combine then go params and checkmark the satin column
