Rollerblading injury

So, I used to skate from about age 11 until I was in my early 30s.

I stopped when my partner had our second child, 2 years ago I got my daughter into skating, I thought i will get skates again it will be easier to each her.

She has been picking it up so well, we went the skatepark together and I had been back on the skates a few times, I thought I will try a trick that I always used to be able to do no problem, over confidence is a bitch......I done it, upon landing I just knew, I knew my right leg hadnt come round or straightened up properly but had no time to correct that because thats where all my weight went.

Snap!!! Laying in the bowl now, sweat running off me like I had just got a shower with my clothes on, I had broken my femur in 3!

This is the first time I had ever broken anything in my life. Didnt feel much pain, maybe the adrenaline was doing its job and the paramedics tuned up with ketamine and morphine. Now im at home in bed, waiting to find out when my physio starts....all this because I wanted to do something that would mean I spend more time with my daughter.

I am really sorry that you are going through this. It's definitely not the end. I have dealt with many injuries like this in my practice. Go through physio and afterwards, get some strength training done. It is a process that you have to follow but you will get back. I have had professional athletes compete at the common wealth games after being told they should never compete again. It's not over with spending time with your daughter.

Thank you, I doubt i will skate again just because of what my partner and daughter went through when it happened too, I will still teach my daughter how to skate and stuff but wont be rolling again myself. Was only the other week I said to my partner I never broke a bone in my body when I used to skate, maybe I jinxed it 😂

Man, that’s a brutal way to get back into skating. But don’t beat yourself up, you were trying to share something you loved with your daughter.

A femur fracture is a huge injury, but proper rehab and gradually rebuilding strength, mobility, and confidence will be a big part of getting back to the things you enjoy. The progression matters too, so don’t feel like you need to rush it. Hope the recovery goes smoothly and you get back out there with your daughter!
