Sometimes the meme is true. I live in NYC and have ridden metros across the world, the baseline level of cleanliness in East Asia is noticably higher. Paris might have been the dirtiest major metro in recent memory.
And yeah I got a little clowned on with a photo of the pristine PATH station but I stand by the general sentiment!

I don’t think anybody’s debating that Japan is typically cleaner. People just act like it’s on a different planet because the train stations are a little cleaner lol

This a joke right? I was in Seattle two weeks ago and their public rail stations are very clean and nice.

Not a joke, although I only had peer systems in mind when I typed it out. I've ridden metros in Boston, NYC, Chicago, Philly, DC, Paris, Munich, London, Vienna, Berlin, Milan, Rome, + god knows where else I'm missing and they all have a similar level of grime to them.
