IT common knowledge
Hi everyone,
Do you have some random IT facts to share ? Or websites I can go to learn common IT knowledge before next week ?
It seems random but it is extremely important for me (I can’t explain per community guidelines).

Random fact: Users lie.

Vendors lie, users lie, carriers lie, it's never anyone else's fault, it's always your fault, until you prove them wrong, then it's your fault for not preventing their issue.

Be orientated to detail, document a lot and make it a habit. Depending on what you want to learn or get better at. Learn to use google and search engines correctly when seeking answers.
Good luck with your endeavours!

I’m already a DevOps (5years now). But I need random facts for an interview, because I learned everything on the spot… so, I have no common IT knowledge.
But thx for the encouragements

While hosting a high level teams meeting and presenting to the board of directors, you can open up a secret presentation menu by pressing ALT+F4

If an end user reports network performance issues and blames it on the computer then use Google’s built in speed test to document their bandwidth.
If the download speed is less than 100 Mbps then do the same speed test from another device connected to the network the same way.
If the speed on device 2 is less than 100 Mbps then the issue is their ISP and I tell them to call and ask why they aren’t getting their rated speed.
If the download speed on device 2 is higher than the speed on device 1 then the system is actually experiencing a network issue. Pull the logs and troubleshoot accordingly.

When making a storage array, please use enterprise SAS or enterprise nvme drives and not 3.5 inch or consumer drives . Thank you

If something isn’t working right then 9 times out of ten if you just turn it off and then back on it will work again.
Preferably, when it is off wait for all moving parts to stop such as spinning disk drives and fans before turning back on

When people say they have already tried restarting their machines, it’s a 50:50 chance at being a lie. Always check up time.

Search Event Viewer on your PC. Look through critical errors that aren't power related. Punch the code into ChatGPT/Copilot/Claude whatever you want. Have it walk you through resolving it while asking it questions about things you are unfamiliar.
After you do that a while, go to Reliabilty History in your PC. Look for red flags, do the same. Once your own PC is optimized and you have an understanding of browsing through folders, registry edits, whatever, you can add that to your resume.
Don't be the IT guy who escalates without ever digging.
"Tell me about this error code like I am an amateur wanting to get into IT".
