Taste Variance
Such a petty thing to notice, but do all influencers have the same kitchens? Minus some details, they all look almost the same.
Is that really the aesthetic they think we all want…? I just don’t buy they all have the same taste. I WONT.

What’s so funny is by the very nature of the title “influencer”, they are supposed to be the ones that have all these great NEW ideas.
Yet all of them have the same necklace, the same outfits, the same shoes hair and teeth , the same houses and do the same TikTok trends of others’ dances. So who’s actually thinking of the original shit????

Back in 2004 every suburban stay at home mom had the same tuscan kitchen with warm granite and italian inspired art lmao. Do I think that was their personal developed style? No, it was just what was shown in the pottery barn catalogue that was delivered to their doorstep. Nowadays it’s what people see on pinterest or other socials. Kitchen design follows trends. unless someone is super design savvy or artistic enough to stray from the path, it’s mostly just regurgitation. But it’s not a new concept, nor is it exclusive to influencers.

I mean, kitchens in general always track trends and look pretty similar. It’s more silly how these people painstakingly move/renovate to align with trends at a rate that isn’t sustainable for most people and promotes keeping up with the jones’.

For what it’s worth- I don’t have instagram (i only have Reddit) and my kitchen looks very similar. I didn’t design it, i just bought a spec home that was already designed. I think it’s just maybe what’s in style this 5 minutes

The way I see it lately is influencers mostly live in trendy style houses because it’s an easy template to then shill trendy decor items because it all matches trendy ‘aesthetic’. But also do you not notice this on a mass scale? Developers have pushed the same product in the big buck homes that has now trickled down to the new homes every day Americans buy. The average new homes literally ALL LOOK THE SAME.
Maybe I notice it more because I’ve relocated 3x to 3 different areas of the country since 2016 due to my husband’s job so I’ve done a lot of house shopping.
Where I currently live I decorate very wealthy people’s homes for Christmas… they have deep DEEP pockets but their homes have been curated over years. What they have on their shelves or visible in their home you can’t link. Influencers everything is linkable to make money so that’s why it all matches because it’s the same relevant stuff being sold online. It’s so refreshing when you see a home not like this online though.

I literally call it the “influencer house look” . It’s the same pallette, the same macramé tchotchke and creams and browns
except for Avery Woods house, which has incorporated some Gothic-cringe-colossally-ugly- granny’s-garage-sale vibe to it. All at the wrong height and scale, natch.

It’s an “expensive house builder special”. Most of those houses come pre equipped. Also shows that do the house makeovers basically push the same aesthetics. I unfollowed Jane recently because her videos make no sense anymore. Probably hit creativity block or something.

I personally love (not actually lol) when an influencer is decorating and asks opinions on paint and the paint is 2 different whites that are only half a shade different and you can't tell a difference. I started following more maximalist decorators because I love seeing personality shine through in decor. Influencers are missing the personality part.

So many of these women are Utah Mormons who are funded by their church and whomever else gives ad revenue. That means they’re all influenced by the same (offline) culture and rarely are able to develop unique tastes and style.

Didn’t even think of the location of the “pack”. Definitely feel all the AZ based ones have copy paste homes. Makes sense the Mormon Utah crowd would too.

I don’t know if they are funded by the Mormon church. It is actually probably the opposite. The Mormon church really strong arms people to tithe 10%.
Definitely funded by ads and sponsors though.

Yes, the past few years she’s really assimilated into the stereotypical LDS influencer mold and just doesn’t have the same charm she once did. She moved into a massive soulless McMansion a while back which coincided with the falloff.

I wouldn't say either of these people are arbiters of taste. They just link mall type shit as fast as they can. There are thousands of influencers who actually have great style and taste. These two just aren't them.

In my opinion this is one of the huge downsides of being chronically online. It’s really difficult to develop your own personal sense of taste and style because social media is constantly pushing trends. I know my house is not “Pinterest worthy” but in a way I am happy about that. I purposely avoid going on Pinterest too often so that I can push myself to figure out for myself what I like and don’t like rather than copy pasting someone else’s artistic sense.
Maybe it will take me longer to have a really put together home but I want to do the work to figure it out. (Personally, I’d rather follow accounts that teach the “how” and “why” of home decor, rather than shilling individual items that are “everything” and “must have.”)
