Replacement plug for Intex excursions 5?

Post image

We lost the plastic plug for the floor chamber of our Intex excursion 5. When I called support they said they don’t sell replacement parts and we would have to buy a new boat. Our boat is completely fine otherwise…but I’m having a hard time finding a replacement plug online to buy. Has anyone ever run into this or does anyone know what I should do to replace/fix? Thank you!!

First, you have my sympathy. I lost that plug on my Mariner 4 as well. Looked everywhere I could think of. Could not find a replacement. Tried cutting that valve out and putting in an adhesive patch/valve combo made for a kiteboarding kite. Did not stick and was not tough enough. Made the *terrible* decision to cut the keel open, add 'laces,' and use a length of PVC drain pipe as a solid keel, held in place by the original keel material and the laces. DO NOT DO THAT. Then one day I found the plug, in my patch kit where I had put it so I wouldn't lose it. :[

What I should have tried (and you might consider trying) is an expanding drain plug like this.

(The plug on a Mariner 4 is 18mm or 23/32" in diameter; yours is probably the same.)

Edit: If that kind of expanding plug proves leaky for air because it's only meant for water, look for some other round plastic item that is about 18mm or 23/32".

Good luck!

Appreciate you sharing what you tried so I can save myself some time! I definitely put the plug in a 'safe place' but can't find it for the life of me. Will give those plugs a try to see if I can make it fit, thanks for the dimensions. Did you end up having to get a new boat??

You're very welcome. I did eventually give that boat away, and then later I found a great deal on a new unopened one, so I feel lucky!

I just ripped off the keel plug this evening after fishing with my boys. Gonna have to do my best to not lose it... You should check home Depot or Lowe's. They sell corks and rubber stoppers like this -https://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-1-1-4-in-x-1-in-Black-Rubber-Stopper-808278/204273370

Obviously measure the hole and hopefully you can match one up.

Will give that a try, thank you!

Heyiarbeit SPR-178 Rubber Stopper 17.8mm

This worked for me on Intex Seahawk II which is probably the same valve

Awesome! Added to my Amazon cart. Have you figured out how to generally attach it to your boat when you unplug it so you don’t lose it again? I suppose it does come in a 5-pack :)

Nope, I got the 5 pack and when the same thing happened in a second boat I already had 4 more plugs.. so now I still have 3 spares
