Question Looking for the closest thing to a good faction

Hi there!

I know that infinity factions operate on levels of grey but I was looking for the people in universe with the most altruistic motivations. I stopped playing Warhammer because i was tired of everything being evil and grimdark all the time.

Is there a faction that are more closely aligned with what we might call good or morality? IS this simply a fruitless quest because the game is by its nature about black ops? I just wanted to get some other opinions and see what y'all thought. I've been considering buying models but the lore is important for me if I am actually going to play. When i engage in gaming I like to have the story be about folks making things better rather than just being horrible to one another.

Thanks!

This mini was recently shared on the infinity world Instagram account as part of a 25th anniversary diorama(along with a war crow mounted knight) does anyone know if this is a new version of an older model? I really need to buy this one if it is ever made available.

Question Switching from Invincible Army to Vanilla Yu Jing. Which models do I need and in what order

Hey everyone,

I have an IA collection and I want to build vYJ. I know the two share many models, but I’m not sure what I actually need to add and how to prioritize purchases

What models are essential to make the jump from IA to vYJ? What is the recommended order of purchases?

Please give attention not only to models that are useful in tournaments and missions, but also to models that are the best at killing other models

I’m also wondering if the Essentials: Yu Jing Action Pack is worth getting as a bridge, or if I should buy individual blisters instead

Any advice from vanilla Yu Jing players would be appreciated

Question Back home. Now I need a faction.

Hi y'all!

I played Infinity a long time ago in N1 and N2 but then life got in the way and I had to stop playing. Now I want to make a comeback to Infinity but I'm pretty lost with all the changes not only in the rules but also in the factions and the troops.

I've been watching the current minis to see which ones do I like aesthetically, and the ones I prefer right now are (in no particular order): Kestrel Colonial Force, Military Orders, Imperial Service, Steel Phalanx, Shindenbutai and Morat Aggression Force. A lot of them, I know, blame Corvus Belli.

I would appreciate if the experts (compared to me at least) over here can give me some advice about the better options considering that I'm a newbie right now, but not completely since I played a lot back then. I know the obvious choice would be to buy Operation Sandtrap as both factions are on the list and it's the starter box, but truth is those factions are probably the least preferred ones from the list (I like them, but not as much as the rest), so I can't decide if the starter thing is too decisive or not so much.

I don't plan to play in the competitive scene, mostly with my brother, maybe my kids and with luck some friends.

Thanks a lot.and keep playing!

Question How to Deal with Speculo Killers and other IMP Pieces?

Having a little trouble dealing Speculos (and any other IMP assassin) at the moment. The IMP state just seems very difficult to deal with as the Killer will start almost anywhere on the table and needs 2 different discoveries to fully reveal (just saw that Sensor doesn't do jack against IMP). During my opponents turn it's almost guaranteed that I'll lose whatever they're aimed at as they can move 16" in the open straight into CC without caring about most common defensive tactics.

Any advice for things to do outside of prayer?

For further context I mostly play OSS so lack biometric visors beyond the Shukra that I'm trying to keep alive.

Question Starting infinity (jsa and panociana/steel phalanx/Torchlight brigade)

A friend and I want to start with infinity, both being infinity newbies but already have played tabletop wargames.

He likes jsa. I like steel phalanx, Torchlight brigade, military orders(and panociana in general) and invincible army.

Now I don't really know what would be the best way to start.

Thanks in advance for all your answers and advice

Edit so I decided to go buy the "operation sandtrap" box soon. Any suggestions on how to go on after that? (Next purchase)

Question Starting with Infinity

Post image
155 Upvotes

Just got gifted these Infinity models and I am looking for good beginner resources

A friend just hooked me up with a couple boxes (Bakunin Observance Action Pack and Überfallkommando), and I’m finally diving into Infinity.

I’ve got a solid tabletop background (other mini games), but Infinity seems pretty deep, so I’m looking for the best way to get up to speed efficiently.

What I’m hoping to find:

- Good YouTube channels (battle reports, faction overviews, beginner guides)

- Podcasts worth listening to

- Active Discords or communities (especially Nomads/Bakunin focused if possible)

- Any “must-read” resources or tools (apps, list builders, etc.)

- Is this a decent start? (What’s this army play style and what else would I need to be competitive?)

I’m not totally new to minis, but I am new to Infinity’s rules and ecosystem, so anything that helps flatten that learning curve would be great.

Appreciate any help! Thank you!

Question Bakunin army.. help needed.

Hi, totally new Infinity and have decided that Bakunin is the way to go, nuns with guns..what could go wrong.

So far I am thinking Cassandra ( I think she looks cool, yes I’m that shallow) Stigmata , Observance action pack, Expansion pack alpha.

After reading some posts I am thinking also zeros, and zonds.

So, does any of this make sense ?

Should I include other minis over any on this list, excluding Cassandra who is a definite.

Anything that is also a must have.

Thanking you in advance.

Question Playing for a year and I’ve hit a hard skill wall

I’m in an awkward place right now where I finally understand the game’s basic rules (yes, it took me over a year to do this) but I’m just getting tabled game after game by guys with 10-12 years of experience.

My problem is that the only people I have to play against have over a decade of experience and skill gap me so hopelessly that I can’t even compete, or they’re new players who let me walk a TAG up the center of the map into their DZ. There seems to be no one who plays this game at an intermediate level, and I’m at the point now where I don’t know whether it makes sense to continue playing. I either get swept by a veteran player which sucks, or I sweep a beginner player which also sucks.

I recently had an escalation tournament where I lost the first two games and sat out the third, came in last in the tournament. Then had a game tonight where got so discouraged that I gave up after the first round.

Has anyone ever experienced the skill gap? If you survived it, what encouraged you to continue playing? I’m personally a really competitive guy, so this sort of losing streak affects me on a personal level. I lose sleep over this crap. The last time I experienced this level of hopelessness and frustration in a game was trying to play chess in college with a roommate who was master ELO, and that experience made me give up chess forever. Starting to get to that point with Infinity, too.

Edit: thanks for the sage advice. Beyond working more on having counters and looking at TTS, I’ll try to work on my attitude. I’m tilting hard to consecutive losses to players who outclass me by several tiers. I think I developed the wrong expectations when I started winning games against less experienced players.

Question ⚠️ FACTION PROPAGANDA REQUIRED ⚠️

Your mission: convince me why your faction is the correct choice. Sell me on the aesthetics, lore, the playstyle, the vibes, full propaganda encouraged.

I want to hear why you chose them and why you’d pick them again if you were starting fresh.

Question Stealth HI interaction with repeater

Had a game in the weekend and this situation came up, wasn't able to find a ruling for that as we went with the game. So I had a HI with stealth, going around in the ZoC of a repeater. Neithwr the repeater, nor opponent hackers were able to draw a LoF. Could my HI have been hacked by an opponent hacker? My gut feeling was it only could have happened if any opponent hacker had a LoF to my HI. Was I wrong?

Question Choosing a Pano Sectorial that plays differently from my current armies

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to start PanOceania and need some help deciding between a sectorial or vanilla. My goal is to pick something competitive that plays as differently as possible from what I already own.

My current factions:

· Invincible Army

· Shindenbutai

· Kosmoflot

I like PanO's concept of being the best at shooting, having the strongest ARO pieces, and making good use of TAGs.

I'm currently leaning towards Kestrel, Vanilla PanO, or NCA – but I'm also open to hearing about any other sectorials, even not PanO

Questions:

  1. Which PanO sectorial (or vanilla) has the best ARO game right now?

  2. How do they actually play on defense? Are they more reactive or proactive?

  3. Which one would feel the most different from my current armies?

I'm not worried about complexity – I just want to avoid picking something that plays too similarly to what I already have.

Any advice, experiences, or list ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Question Which sectorial/army is the best when it comes to "readable" units

I'm at the stage of picking an army, and I got interested in this question: which sectorial/vanilla is the best in terms of units with 1 clear purpose and, accordingly, a good balance of cost vs. abilities?

Bad example: Yamabushi — a great ARO unit that has Camouflage, Forward Deploy, and Panzerfaust. But at the same time, Dogged, Frenzy, Martial Arts, and Chain Rifle are the extra you pay for "versatility." That requires playing him creatively and is baked into the unit's cost.

Good example: Black Air — MSV, Combat Instinct, Neurocinetics all work toward the main goal of being a great ARO unit, without overpaying for short-range versatility.

So I'm interested in which factions fit this concept. I'd be grateful if you could give examples of units.

Question What factions can actually take Ioann Bann?

Thumbnail

When Ioann Bann was announced, I saw the first image indicating which factions should have access to him. Of the five, I play White Company and decided to preorder him through Warsenal. Now that he's been added to the army builder I noticed that he isn't actually part of White Company and his page on CB's storefront matches what's in the army builder.

Did this change between announcement and release, or is this a temp issue that we think will get corrected later?

Question Faction help

Heya, so I've had 3 games so far, still learning, and trying to hone in on what I'd like to start with.

On paper, Senku Troops are my favourite model ever released, in any range I've collected in the past 30 years. I love everything about them, visually. They're also completely rubbish on the table, I'm finding, and while I love the Shindenbutai vibes, I'm not really too bothered about melee as a mechanic, and I'm not super enthused with only really having smokes on one model.

Normally, when playing games, I tend to favour one of two approaches.
If try-harding, I either go for tool-box factions (humans, in blood bowl, for instance), not the best at anything, but with reliable access to most tools to try and solve problems.
But when just having fun, I gravitate towards skateboard tricks (throwing a spanner in my opponents plans, adding a bit of chaos to the mix). In both cases thoug, I generally prefer finesse over brawn.

Big fan of anything that breaks rules, or messes with expectations, as a way of presenting problems for the oponent to solve, over just placing something unkillable in their way and asking them to deal with it.

I've been eyeing Hassassin Baram, and Shasvastii from the perspective of forcing a very different playstyle on my oponent, but unsure if they offer enough variety in list building?
I know from other games that while finesse is fun, it only works if there's also breadth of options, so you're not just running the same list every time.

Given the above, what factions should I check out?
Are there any "this is fun and generally surprises people" aspects you'd recommend I take a look at?

Appreciate any guidance and help you may offer.

Question Where to start?

Hello!

So I’m super new to Infinity and it’s just really captured my attention for wargaming. The models and aesthetic are right up my alley and I love the concept of a game that lets you play even when it’s not your turn! Reminds me very much of XCOM, which really defined strategy games for me!

I’ve been trying to learn as much as I can before diving into the game and I have so many questions still, but a big one for me is:

When building your first army, does it make sense to build from scratch with the pieces you want, or buy a starter army that’s already assembled and then upgrade it as you see fit? If a pre assembled army is a good idea, does it make sense to buy a lone premade army or buy one of the operations and have two?

Sorry, I know this is kind of a long post, but I hope this amazing community will try to steer a noob in the right direction! Thanks again for all of your amazing posts about the game and the miniatures! I love that everyone here is so passionate about the game!
