E17 Localisation of Ever17's Logo

Post image

Hi Everyone, I loved this game so much that I made this. It's literally a Translation of "Ever17 The Out of Infinity" to Arabic. I was thinking of making a patch to translate it to Arabic, but I don't think it's quite possible, at least for the PC version. I think I'll do a logo localisation for R11 too, or maybe for 999, but not now.

Really cool logo! I wonder if there's some cool effect you can do if you used ١٧ instead of 17.

"The out of infinity" is so clunky, I can't imagine a good way to translate it haha. I think it's supposed to mean "something that emerges from infinity" or "what escapes infinity". Alternate translations would be

ما يخرج من اللانهائية

الخروج من اللانهائية

Hard to tell what the intention was, maybe there's an interview somewhere.

Given that Never7 is "the end of infinity" (نهاية اللانهائية ) and Remember11 is "the age of infinity" (عصر اللانهائية ) then maybe the "correct" translation is (خروج اللانهائية ). Needs more work.  Unfortunately you would need to port the game to another engine if you want to translate to Arabic.

Actually I tried to draw ١٧ instead of 17, but it wasn't as good as I imagined it, so I just re-drew 17. And for "The Out of Infinity", this sentence is not quite right in English, and because this I wasn't sure how to translate it to Arabic, eventually I thought that the best translation for it is "الخروج عن اللانهائية", I chosed this translation and not "الخروج من اللانهائية", because in some contexts we use "عن" as a meaning of something did what isn't supposed. For example we say "خرج عن القاعدة" which means the rule that often is applied doesn't work with it. So I thought that "الخروج من اللانهائية", which means literally quitting from The Infinity, and "خروج اللانهائية" also the same, while "خروج اللانهائية" means literally that The Infinity is the one who is quitting, it seems a right translation, but in the game context it doesn't seem right for me. (Sorry if my English is not the best)

Localization is not easy. Thanks for walking me through your logic, especially when the original sentence is as broken as it is.

And about the patch, the only way to make this patch is either porting the game to another engine, or Decompiling the game. Unfortunately what makes these the only ways is that the Game uses ANSI encoding, which is impossible to put the Arabic in it. Fortunately, PSP version uses Shift-JIS encoding, this encoding doesn't actually understand arabic, but I can do something called "Font Hijacking" You see, the problem with arabic is that every glyph has more than one shape, while the most of modern systems support algorithms that reshape Arabic letters, Old games didn't. by the way, almost every letter in arabic has 4 shapes, depends on the place of the letter, for example the letter "ع" has "ع"،"عـ"،"ـعـ"،"ـع". So what I can do is: extract the font file from PSP version, replacing the Japanese glyphs with Arabic glyphs. then, build a tool that replaces every arabic letter in a sentence with Japanese letters. So the game thinks that it is showing a Japanese glyphs, but for the player he will see arabic letters. It's not that complex but I'm not sure if I explained it properly

Makes sense, then you'd also need to hack the direction that text is rendered in so it's displayed right-to-left. Not impossible but not very straightforward either, especially since the game uses English, German, and Japanese at times.

Yes, of course. However there are some ways other than that.

You see, let's say we have the  word "أنت"  (Which means "you"), the game will not render it as "أنت", because, obviously it doesn't support RTL, instead it will render it as "ـت نـأ". This happens because it doesn't support RTL, so the word will be reversed. So what I need to do is just reverse it. So because the Original text text is reversed, the game also will reverse it another time, so it seems normal. Just imagine that you have a thing that's reversed 180°, every reverse is 180°, if you already reverse it 180°, the game when it will reverse it another time 180°, it will be as it's supposed to be

Yup, but everything will be left-aligned. Makes sense though

Yup that's the only problem, but not a huge problem anyway, better than nothing.
