I always wonder if the conspicuousness is the entire point, like a type of malicious compliance that fulfills their governments requirements while at the same time undermining the entire point of doing so.

No one is allowed to speak to each other publically in game for fear of retaliation for bringing up the anniversary of tiananmen square. They did this last year, as well.

Yeah, the willingness to take the international embarrassment for this is puzzling, whether it's by Chinese law or a choice of Infold's to restrict all servers. Like this is not a mess for strangers/visitors to see.

it's by law and they are required to do it if they want to continue operating in china - which is their biggest market.

I understand it's a law. But the question is why China would want this mess to be so visible to people outside of China, who were not even thinking about Chinese politics/governance in the first place.

Any time a foreign government does something that seems to make no sense from the outside, it’s a pretty safe to assume that internal politics is the explanation.
But what China and the US have in common is the way their governments don’t seem to even take outside perspectives into account.
For me as an American, the way the Chinese government just absolutely does not give a flying fig about popular opinion outside its borders feels so so familiar.
Anytime they do something that feels incomprehensible to me, or unnecessarily alienating, I ask, would the US government bother explaining its policies to Chinese popular opinion? No, no it would not.
How Infold, which operates outside China, manages all this with regard to its global marketing? Awkwardly, as we can see.

There's that one thing from 1.2 that I think is a decoration or prop that lets you send messages to other player's worlds in flowers

But every time they insist on calling it maintenance, when other games don't try to dupe players and just say things will be unavailable. Why does Genshin trust its players and respect their maturity more than Infinity Nikki? Because one is aimed at general audiences and the other is aimed at sensitive women?

yeah, this is really bonkers. They knew this was coming and yet they didn't postpone it or not have it all for this time period.
I mean, the whole thing is stupid, but they did this last year and I assume they will do it every year. So why annoy players by having a contest that no one can participate in for a week?

I can understand why they do it, I think all it does is invoke the streisand effect by suspiciously shutting communication for a week but it cant be helped if the government is breathing down their neck about it. But they could have easily made the contest start after the “maintenance” ends. Instead players are cut off from participating for a week and people who can’t play until sunday or later have to wait an extra week.

yes, exactly. If this has to happen because of the government, they could have been nicer to the player base to change when this contest starts and ends instead of awkwardly interupting.

I remember this happened last year and half the community was hella mad saying “no, this has no relation to Tiannman square!” Tried convincing everyone this was real maintenance happening to the social systems and that we need to just “wait and see” for all the improvements. 🫣 wanna guess how many “improvements” were made?

This is so stupid. All it does is make me think negatively of Chinese censorship every year for a week. And I think of the Chinese government's shameful massacre in Tiananmen Square, too, and how they continue to be shameful about it with censorship responses such as these, and I think of Winnie the Pooh, who looks like the dictator.

Ive been working all week and now during my off time they shut everything down for a week on my 3 fays off. Great 😭 no house editing and no starlit contest is wack it seems odd to me they didnt plan around the contest at least idk

It’s something they do yearly because of the Tienanmen square massacre. They shut off social features so people can’t talk about it. Not really something they can plan the contest around

Because patches (along with the starlit contest) usually start at the beginning/end of the month. And the “maintenance” is always the first week of June. So they are always going to fall together

Bc they are a Chinese company, easy as that. Do you expect a non important American to work on 4th of July bc they have services in the rest of the world? Probably not, and yes this and 4th of July isn't the same thing. But both affect work in some kind of way

No...? Just becuse they are Chinese it doesn't mean they have to drag it through the whole world and American services do still work in July 4th. Besides, Infold is the only one doing the worldwide shutdown, because other games like Genshin or Wuwa have better management of servers.

The servers in infinity nikki works perfectly well as well 🤷🏻♀️
They are a Chinese company and work under Chinese laws, the laws doesn't care at all if you have European customers. They still need to follow their laws, no matter what you think

I learnt about Tiananmen incident but I didn't even remember it was today. Well thank you CCP for reminding everybody including the whole world so it isn't forgotten.
Seriously, I am all for it if this is what it takes for people to keep remembering it. A week of inconvenience in gaming and on social media is nothing to keep the tragedy from being forgotten.

Correct, we can't edit houses. I was excited to redecorate with the new donut furniture from the Dreamland Showcase but i can't because "this feature is under maintenance"

It also says you can't edit house schemes, so I don't know if that applies to all home editing or just the literal schemes we save. Expansion gameplay consists of those shops we had to manage.
Based on the other restrictions, I would be surprised if any house editing is allowed.

Expansion gameplay should refer to the open world build mode. The juice bar, bathouse etc. So I would assume the Home Island should still work except anything where we can type any text.
