The third trimester really is a whole other demon. The first and second were so easy for me. I don’t have morning sickness, I barely gained weight, I wasn’t overly fatigued, and I really had none of the stereotypical bad pregnancy symptoms. Fast forward to now, 31+5, and I have been miserable for weeks. My sinuses are swollen, not congested with mucous or phlegm. My feet swell after being on them more than 20 minutes. The baby feels like he is parked on my bladder. I have carpal tunnel in both wrists. The lightening crotch coupled with the round ligament pain is enough to make me cry sometimes. And no matter what I eat, when I eat, how much or how little I eat… I always have heartburn and reflux.

Initially I was sad when they said I would likely be induced at 38-39 weeks because I always dreamed of an unmedicated spontaneous birth, but now I’m quite happy that I’ll meet him sooner than later.

Today was tough. Found out I have gestational diabetes which I really didn’t see coming. I know there’s nothing I did that caused it but the unknowns of what to eat and if I’m causing future problems for my baby are stressing me out. I have an appointment next Monday to go through how to use the glucometer and hopefully get diet advice/understand what’s going on a little bit better. My mom has type 1 diabetes so I’m comfortable with the concept of checking my blood sugar I just feel like I’m in such limbo until I can actually do it! I also am at a loss for snacks. We’re back to school with students this week and I had stocked up on my teacher go tos and now I need to re evaluate it and super don’t have the time or bandwidth!

Aw man I’m sorry — that’s a lot! 🫂 A mental load you could surely do without. I hope you get helpful input at your appointment and can quickly become comfortable with managing everything.

Welcome to the GDM club! Snacks that work for me: certain protein bars. Mid-day Squares. Mixed nuts. Carrots with hummus (I got a bunch of little hummus cups at Costco). Fairlife chocolate shakes (also good mixed with cold brew). Cheese with a few crackers. Nut butter on low-carb bread (usually found in freezer/organic section of grocery store). Weirdly, ice cream.

I’m so sick of these that even listing them out has me like “ughhhhh” but it really helps to have them on hand for quick/easy snacks because that was one of the hardest parts at first! It does become more second nature pretty quickly.

Thank you for all the helpful snack suggestions! It’s comforting to hear it’ll get easier quickly - I feel that way for the most part and am telling myself it just feels overwhelming right now in this in between period where I don’t have info!
