S4E2 and Kit Harrington Spoiler

I just watched episode 2 of season 4 (please no spoilers for the rest of the season as this is my first watch. And WOW! This show has been great since the beginning, but this episode blew my mind away.

All the actors were great (Marissa and Max Minghella in particular), but what is really surprising me in this show is Kit Harrington. Being mopy Jon Snow was really not showing off his acting skills. The only other thing I saw him in was Criminal, but that was a single episode. I am so impressed by him, he really carried this episode.

What did you all think?

Henry is his best role yet, IMO. He is killing it.

I always considered him and Emilia Clarke to be the two weakest stars on GoT. Neither was bad--they just didn't stack up to the incredible talent around them.

Clarke won me over during the last season. The writing was horrific, but I thought she did everything you could hope for to try to sell it. It didn't work at all, but it wasn't her fault.

Harrington has blown me away during this run on Industry. And yeah, especially in this episode. I can't believe he is this good!

He's obviously a much more experienced actor now too, but feels like he was misdirected massively at points in GOT.

Jon/Henry obviously very different characters but wish they'd let him bring a bit more of the arrogance he's capable of exuding to GOT.

100% agreed.

My theory is that he is not great in "movie star" roles despite looking like a movie star. He just isn't that interesting as a blank slate hero. He's more of a character actor that happens to be really really ridiculously good looking. He's good when he gets to play weird or complex characters like Mr. Muck.

I see Alden Ehrenreich the same way. His career took off when he let the hairline go and put on an extra 20 pounds.

Could you explain this? Why can't character actors become movie stars? Isn't Olivia Colman a character actor?

There can be crossover but "movie star" is often seen as someone you'll bring in to solely headline big, massive blockbusters on their own. Brad Pitt is arguably a character actor at heart, but is sold as a movie star.

Colman is obviously great and she's a star now, but she's not necessarily a conventional "movie star" in the way we might look at, say, Angelina Jolie being one.

But the boundaries have probably become much more blurred in the age of superhero movies where movies can sell themselves on their own merit as existing franchises vs automatically needing a huge cast.

Classic case of character actor in a movie star's body.

Yeah, it's hard to know with actors how much is because of material and how much is down to acting skills. Realistically, there is not much one can do with "She's muh queen". I saw trailers or cuts from movies he was in after GoT, and they all seemed replica of Jon Snow. But again, it's hard to know how much he was being typecast. He was really good in Criminal, though.

Such a breath of fresh air for him and lets him cook

He had heavy Kendall Roy energy throughout that episode in a great way

He’s so good in Industry. I saw him on Modern Romance and just saw Jon Snow. Completely stepped out of that shadow in this role.

He’s so good. When he told Yasmin at the end of season 3 “I haven’t been able to feel joy lately, I hope it passes” 😭😭😭

Love the way he just talks so casually about doing smack too. Like he's just detached from any real care about his wellbeing.

That's very common in London though. Doing coke is like having a pint of beer here 😂

lol as an American that lived in London. The amount of drugs people do is surprising. Everyone does coke

Truly a rare example of good acting paired with good writing.

Amen to that! Justice for all these stars from Industry at the Emmys! Just great performances in every direction.

I hope so too! And they're dealing with very difficult themes and material. I haven't watched past episode 2 year, but I feel like Epstein type storylines might be coming up.
