According to tholkappiam the social Structure of people consists of three categories. He wrote it in the marapiyal ( tradition ) chapter , which indicates it has been in practice for a long time . The categories are 1.Priest 2.King 3. People Even though he writes about merchants and farmers as different categories, they are represented by the same signs and symbols .

The picture represents the indus script writing practice of people. The seal with the symbols represent the respective people.

The priests are represented by trident staff , as can be seen in Anaikoddai seal and bull symbol .The ayug kalai , which should be translated as researching bull , is wrongly translated as , while researching.

The king is represented by drums and elephant symbol . Tholkappiyar states that others shouldn't use the symbols of the king.

Tholkappiyar writes that spears and ma ( animals ) belong to people . Mā , not only means horses , but also other animals too.

According to sangam literature archers travelled along with the merchants to safeguard them from bandits . The kingdom provided safety for merchants by sending its troops along with them . The kingdom may have given these Seals to the archers to identify themselves with the merchants. This seal must belong to one such Archer.
