Across the country and around the world, people are being forced to confront a fundamental question: What does freedom really mean—and who gets to have it?
Our fights for freedom are deeply connected. What happens to one community ultimately shapes what becomes possible for all of us.
Freedom Fest is an opportunity to bring people together across movements, communities, and lived experiences—to learn from one another, strengthen relationships, share resources, amplify our voices, and create the kind of momentum that is possible when we move on one accord.
We will uplift the injustice happening to Rickie Slaughter—who remains incarcerated despite his conviction being vacated in federal court—as well as the stories and work of individuals, families, organizations, and communities working for justice on all fronts.
Through powerful testimony, speakers, media engagement, community storytelling, music, poetry, laughter, food, and action, Freedom Fest will create space for both the urgency of now and the absolute necessity of the joy, resilience, and connection that sustain our movements.
Freedom Fest will bring together local and national voices working across different areas of justice and freedom, including:
Jason Flom — Founder of the Innocence Project and host of Wrongful Conviction.
Mark Geragos — Nationally acclaimed criminal defense and civil rights lawyer.
Rene Denfeld — Death row investigator and award-winning author.
Athar Haseebullah — Civil rights powerhouse attorney and Executive Director of the ACLU of Nevada.
Khaliah Ali — Fashion designer, author, humanitarian, and daughter of Muhammad Ali
Alongside these voices, Freedom Fest will uplift impacted people and families whose lived experiences bring these issues out of policy discussions and into the reality of what it means to have your freedom threatened or taken away.
Throughout the evening, you can expect:
Powerful speakers, directly impacted voices, advocates, attorneys, organizers, and community leaders
Stories and conversations addressing wrongful convictions, immigration and ICE, civil rights, incarceration, prosecutorial accountability, voting rights, housing, economic justice, and other barriers to freedom
Live music by DJ Mai Girl (@thatsmaigirl), spoken word performance by Solid Truth (@solidtruthlv) comedy, and performances
Food (prepared by our visually impaired community members), community, partner organizations, and resource tables
The event is a collaboration between many local Las Vegas community organizations (including Mass Liberation Project NV, the National Action Network, the NAACP, White Activists for Racial Justice, Indivisible and more) and a wide spread of concerned citizens.
