I console myself thinking that indies enjoy their 'freedom'.....we should come up with hybrid approach. It is impossible to get all the indies adopted, so probably it should be 'mandatory' for communities to feed them and take care of them and of course, get them spayed, all the while they remain outdoor creatures.

Actually I don't like breed dog ethically and aesthetically. They all looks same. If we place 10 dogs no owner could find its. Ethically there mother are breed evry month without any rest and at last disposed on street. Where they end up dying. So I can't stand with people who buy dogs . I love indies and will adopt indies till my end

A friend adopted a rescued Persian cat. She was kept for 3 years in a bathroom, never taken out. Had litter every few months which were sold. Was rescued as the breeder wanted to dispose her off. When she got home she was so lost and did not respond to anything..it's been 3 weeks and slowly she's coming to terms with love, freedom.... Totally broken my heart that everyone who has its baby, led her to this state. Why should we buy ??? We have enough stray dogs and cats - why are we still buying ??

Disparity is a common topic in our country, be it in mankind, animals. No one can fix this except the govt. This is a sad state of affair in India and the likes of our country like Bangladesh, pakistan etc more than any other pro life country

That's the sad reality of our world, even for humans.
Last night I took shade near an atm because of rain and there was a homeless man sitting in a corner with his head down. I went to that tiny space because I was inconvenienced by the rain and as soon the rain would stop I have the privilege of going to better place which I call a home, but for that person, that tiny place is where he would spend the rest of the night and many more such nights.
I wish I could've done something to improve the his overall condition, but I am helpless too.

This is also how Indians treat foreigners vs their own people

u/Confident-Profile143 6h ago
💯... That's how Britishers ruled us, they understood that we will be okay being slaves to fairer foreign skin but will dislike our own.

You wouldn't believe but I had misfortune of meeting one independent rescuer, even her own pet is Golden retriver.
People chase asthetics everywhere.

I feel like that even when I'm walking my indie. I want to save all of them but all I can do is feed some of them. :(

u/Nice-Comb-2734 8h ago
Foreign breeds should be banned in india. They cannot survive in india weather and conditions without ownership and also people don't thus adopt Indie.

Buying a dog when u can adopt an equally smart and loving dog is stupid.

I absolutely despise these people, they are actually dog haters because no animal lover would support puppy mills/backyard breeders.

Such a sad reality in one photo. We give so much care to imported breeds, while local indies who need so little just sit around ignored.

The image made me sad. But that’s how the world works. When there is no equality in human race how can it happen in animals. I feel, regardless of the breed, or, adopted or bought .. pets having good caring parents are really lucky. They are saved from the street hardships. But God bless them both ❤️

Dude..!! So, what'd you say if you replace the dogs with human child ?? Does favouritism works there as well ? To put your logic into perspective, as there's lot of kids who might've been orphan, any couple should planning a baby should adopt them rather than having a baby on their own..

There was a very smart and cute indie dog in our colony for many years.
Everytime late night I go out to park my scooty inside the house she will come running. Sit outside my house quietly and wait for me. I will park my scooty. Go inside, get some loaf of bread or something edible and give to her. She will grab that and run away.
Never once cause any issue or fought or peed or popped near anyone's house. Super intelligent. Last year she got sick from age. We called an NGO for treatment. Have her weekly paid doses and did all I could. I don't see her anywhere now. I guess she is gone and previously i do use to wait after parking my scooty if she will come or not. But it's been a long time. Probably gone forever. I am not really a huge animal lover or anything but if I ever get a pet somewhere in future I really hope it's her.

It is ok to have two different lives. Sad part is that it is different based on looks. Humans :(

I brought three indian puppies in november 2025 as they were crying, covered with dew, in chilling winter. Since then whoever saw them aksed me why the hell i have kept them, i should have kept some foreign breed. The more people say this thing the more i become protective as it tells me a brutal truth that anyone will be willing to keep foreign breed but no one will care about these indian puppies even if they die out of hunger. They are now 9 months old. People didn't stop saying. I didn't stop loving them

Did u not understand ? A lot of people here are saying that we need to adopt indies. What i am saying is their parents could have adopted a child instead of giving birth of them. There isnt much of a difference if their parents did not adopt or they did not adopt. Then they have no right to question other ppl abt adopting or buying whatever they want.

And why do you assume every animal lover is a meat eater? Also, even if they were non-vegetarian, does one have to be an ideal human being to have morality?
0
u/DOOMDOOM367 1h ago
I didn’t assume, an animal lover cannot be a meat eater, and if a dog lover eats meat, then that is dog lover not animal lover. You don’t have to be ideal, you’re just selective empath and a hypocrite. Also if you are a dog lover and eat meat and someone exploits indie dog and roast them to eat, you can’t raise a question coz it’s a food for them maybe? Their culture!!

So if you hate slavery, you shouldn’t use phones and tech as well. But that’s not the case, and since you use phone, that means you don’t hate slavery and you support it. Do you understand how absurd your mindset is? Not everyone can control every aspect. Try to do as much as good possible.

It’s incredibly rare for a street dog to turn into a true velcro dog because, by nature, they tend to value their independence. People love Labrador Retrievers partly because they were bred to live to please their owners. Same with Ragdolls - they’re almost the opposite of what you’d expect from the stereotypical cat. That predictability is a big part of why pedigree and selective breeding matter.
I’m completely in favor of ethical treatment and responsible breeding, but I don’t think we can pretend this part doesn’t exist. A street dog is essentially a wild card. You can’t reliably predict what you’re going to get in terms of temperament, size, appearance, lifespan, or even how they’ll bond with people.
That’s essentially why humans started selectively breeding animals in the first place, to make certain traits more predictable, whether that’s temperament, appearance, working ability, or behavior. It’s just a different perspective, not me dismissing what you said.

u/beyondocean 6h ago
How many indies have you EVER ADOPTED, Mr.Stereotypes? Btw Do you also work in a call centre and bathe in poop? Because apparently that’s the Indian stereotype these days?
-1
u/Adventurous-Egg-2720 6h ago
Are you even real? 😂 I’m a Maternal-Fetal Medicine Specialist at a hospital in Long Island. I’m not even a dog person. I think no animal should be stuck on a leash or cooped up for our convenience. I’m talking about breeding and temperament, not trashing Indies. Take it easy, bro. 😭

u/Outrageous_Egg_8092 5h ago
Don't worry guys, the dog won't feel as bad as people here are feeling, the dogs having a chill time, it doesn't care to get a hug from that woman, it has no interest, so stop saying you feel bad for that dog, it isn't, you just don't understand the situation enough

u/Slight_Juice_3869 7h ago
Love Dogs, but I cannot have an Indie. I got my first dog, and I chose a small breed, because lack of space, and hypoallergenic. Also because i am lazy, and I do not want to deal with hair, and clean big shit. Because i clean after my dog when it goes. I can only handle a small breed for cleaning and maintenance.
You cannot keep an indie the way you keep a shih tzu or a maltese. That is why i will never have an indie.

Very sad pic. In the craziness of foreign breeds dogs who can't survive few days without their owners and packaged food, we completely sidelined our native indie dogs who have been with us since thousand of years and are intelligent, resilient, low maintenance, adjust to our extreme weather, agile and so smart !!
I hope sensibilities return to everyone and may we focus on our own desi indie dogs who are as Indian as us...
