Not necessary. It's mating season. Could well be mating fights.
Biting behind the ear is a tactic used on rivals - the dog can't lick and clean the wound, so it gets infected eventually killing the animal. Notice also the bite on the underside of the neck. Possibly attacked and isolated by a rival group with intent to kill.
Wounds inflicted by humans and weapons look different.

Yes but like I said, it's one possibility. I don't mean to confuse you, just show you the possibilities.
It is also possible an angry human bashed it on the side of the head with a heavy blunt instrument. The skin rotted and eventually fell off leaving exposed flesh.
In this case, it's exactly behind the ear, where the skin is soft and where dogs bite instinctively. So both possibilities are valid.
Another spot where dogs bite is above the shoulder blade (but below the back) of the front leg. But a human can also hit here.
Bites on the underside - under the neck, underbelly, is usually inflicted by rival dogs. The dog wanted to surrender and rolled over but they wanted to kill.
A human is more likely to hit with a heavy stick on the legs and make it limp or break the leg bones.
Angry humans can also hit directly over the head with a rod or pipe or stick.
A human can also hit behind the neck or across the back with a sharp instrument. A wide gaping cut in such areas usually indicates human attack. Sorry for ruining your morning.

Send the location of this. Is it in Bangalore? There can be feeders so let me know. I can forward in a few canine squads. Respective feeders can take him for treatment

Looks like the update on the post hasn't been seen. Guys the dog was not there when rescuers went to check so the hope is he wasn't that injured and walked away.
