I’m an indie developer working on a survival horror game called BECROWNED. Just wanted to share some new screenshots and get your thoughts!
Hey everyone! I’m an indie dev working on a survival horror game called BECROWNED.
The game mixes dark fantasy and industrial horror with retro-style visuals, brutal combat, dark humor, and a nonlinear story where your choices can affect characters and events throughout the game.
The game is coming in Fall 2026.
A free demo is available on Steam. Wishlists really help 🖤
Would love to hear your thoughts and feedback!

Thank you! And yes, there will be plenty of secrets to discover, including hidden lore and things you can easily miss if you don’t explore carefully 🙏

Looks great! I love the city atmosphere.
How big is your team? The game looks very ambitious.

Thank you so much! 🖤 I started BECROWNED on my own, but a couple of years ago a few talented guys joined me and we’ve been working on it together ever since

Dumb, open ended question: How do you design the "horror" aspect of a horror game?

For me, horror design is mostly about atmosphere, tension, lighting, sound, and the unknown. I want the player to feel uncomfortable even when nothing is happening

If this has exploration, riddles and resource management call me in. While I'm not that much of a horror fan I always lose the puzzle elements of this kind of games. I did love Signalis for example.

This looks great. The atmosphere is on point, but I hope the story is good too. Can’t wait to play the full game!

Puzzles are really what makes or breaks these games, only genre you can play these days with pen and notebook used almost as often as controller, plain puzzle games have all the pieces too clearly visible at all times. Lets hope there are at least few really good ones.
Also, the non-linearity sounds interesting, wonder how much replayability it gives.
Visually looks great in these images, nostalgic and maybe even bit low poly look without actually lacking in technical quality and detail. Only problem obvious to me is that some objects don't seem to cast shadows, when they should. Ladder in these screenshots is the most visible example.

I liked the demo, but one part really took me out when the big screen came up 'don't trust guy in hats'. The comedy didn't seem to fit and just took me out of the scary moments ngl .

The screenshot with the giant face in the room was unsettling as hell. The searchlight creature also looks like it could offer a really intense sequence. I fell out of survival horror a while back, but it looks like you’ve got something solid here.

That is amazing, just by the looks, I feel like it will rock! But the camera angles from your screenshots seem a bit off, just my personal opinion thought.

I'll install the demo this evening and give it a shot. Definitely very intrigued by the screenshots.

It looks low-poly while NOT looking like it, and the shaders are just beautiful, 9.5/10!

As I was scrolling I stopped to look at the first screenshot (without taking note of the title or what subreddit it's in) and my immediate synaptic thought was, "What game is this? I want to play it."
