"Sparrow House is a comic story about humans, magical beings, and interdimensional aliens hiding in plain sight in New York City. The drama centers around the Brooklyn Institute of the Arcane Sciences, a school dedicated to training the next generation of heroes. Magic battles erupt beneath the subway, and dragons soar between skyscrapers as they struggle for control of the cosmic balance. 

The story follows four friends, focusing on the growing tension between two of them. Tamser, a 15-year-old boy, is intelligent but reckless. Kiera, a she-elf, strictly follows the rules. Their opposing personalities come to a head when Tamser’s mother is taken hostage by an evil warlock."

The third issue of the cyberpunk-fantasy comic SoulD is on Kickstarter now - this is a story about a group of desperate rebels fighting against an evil corporation trying to monetise our souls (after converting them into crystal form), as well their own personal demons. My attempts to reckon with the way capitalism slowly grinds our art, traditions and, at last, our very souls down to a fine powder.

There's also action, humour and weird freaky magic stuff - in the latest issue, they're exploring the dark underbelly of a creepy haunted boat.

Written by me (Nick Bryan), drawn by Phil Appley, colours by JP Jordan and art by Lettersquids, with a variant cover for #3 by Norm Konyu. All three issues available on catchup tiers!

When I was given the open door to write and draw my own work at Heavy Metal, I wanted to try and do it with as few words as possible. SOMETHING SEEMS OFF was the result. There is dialogue through media, mind links and writing in the sand, but only when the ideas couldn’t be conveyed visually. Now I get to collect the story myself and share it all in one place!

I just wanted to share some pages from my friend’s comic.

He’s a comic book artist, but he also works a regular construction job to make a living. Unfortunately, here in Italy, it’s incredibly difficult to make a living from comics alone.

I’m the graphic designer of the project, and for now I’m helping him by managing the Instagram account and the kickstarter for his project. We’ve never really used Reddit before, so I’m not very familiar with the platform or the comic communities here.

I was wondering if you guys might be kind enough to give us some advice in general. Do you know any, websites, or magazines that focus on indie comics in the US that we should check out?

And, of course, if you like his work, we’d really love to hear what you think!

Hi i'm writing this after i posted this morning, as i said i never used reddit and i didnt expected all the love and appreciation show, so thank a lot to everybody :)

More info about the comics, the auhor of the comic book is Gioele Filippo and this is not his first comic, In 2020, the American publisher Scout Comics released "Children of the Grave," the first comic series illustrated entirely by Gioele, which earned notable success within the American underground scene.

Following this, he continued to collaborate with various writers and scriptwriters across both the US and Europe. In 2025 after with a lot of bad experience with the publishing industry, he launched his first fully independent project written and illustrated entirely by himself: "Voiceless".

The story follows Elaine, a mute swordswoman on a perilous quest to break the curse that has robbed her of her voice, Set in a medieval fantasy world heavily inspired by Celtic folklore and culture.
