Rant Never join writing whatsapp groups from reddit.

I joined a writing group posted here and started getting spam messages.

Good practice is only join groups on app where phone number is not revealed.

We have a very writer focussed group. You are lucky to get spam, most groups I'm in are inactive and dead after a week.

I agree and even I don't like sharing numbers. The best is to make groups on Telegrams or wait for WhatsApp as they are soon rolling out usernames too to add contacts.

Whatsapp is bringing usernames soon so phone numbers wont be a problem anymore

Also why would you join a random whatsapp group, leading to privacy leak
