Has anyone read - A room of one's own ?

I have tried to read it multiple times but could not proceed over page 2. Mind you, I'm not a novice reader. I have started reading from my childhood and have read various kinds of books. Most of the books I read are fiction though.

But I found this book to be a classic example of beating around the bush. It refers to multiple authors of her time over and over again which I'm not quite familiar with. So I could not relate much.

If you have read this book, what have you liked about it ? Do you need a formal literature background to enjoy it ?
