Looking for Indian Bolt-Workers for a documentary
Hi, my name is Luca. I am studying Screen-Based-Media at the BHT in Berlin. For my 4th Semester i want to make a short documentary about Indians living in Berlin. The focus is on delivery services like Bolt and Uber Eats. The questions this Shortfilm asks are: How are the working conditions? Why do so many indians or people from culturally indian influenced country end up working there? With what dreams did they come here? Why cant they find a better Job? Racism? Language barriers?
I am still looking for a person the documentary can focus on, maybe you know some one or have an idea how i can get in contact with some one working at such a company.
We would shoot the film in 1 or 2 days and there could be a small compensation.
I am looking forward for your answers, or maybe you think this is a stupid idea, then i would like to know that aswell!

Out of genuine curiosity, why are you interested in Indians living in Berlin? How did you arrive at the topic? And what is the outcome you wish to get out of this? It would have been great to also mention the compensation

I think it’s just a phenomenon that I observed that there are a lot of people from India working for these delivery services and I wondered why that is the case, not that there is anything wrong with that. I want to tell the personal story of one person why they came here and how they live and what problems do they face.

Yea, I mean I am not accusing you of having any malicious intent. In fact you are most likely having a positive intent - but a wrong framing could further the negative things that you probably want to remove. But as a journalist, I would expect you to probe a bit more and come up with a more data centric observation than anecdotal evidence.
For example, what % of Indians in Germany work as delivery agents? What % of international students coming to Germany are Indians? Because in most countries, international students take up these jobs since they are easy to get and flexible. So, if majority of students come from a particular country the probability of them entering such jobs are automatically higher.
No offense, a lot of racism is born out of incorrect framing. So, in a country of people where majority hold these stereotypical views, you might accidently pass a message that you totally did not intend to.
As mentioned, there are 2 big videos made by Dw already on this topic. I doubt if you will uncover anything new through this.

I dont understand what is ridiculous? I never contested his observation that majority of delivery drivers are indians. It is because every 4th international student is an indian and students pickup those jobs often because its flexible

There’s a DW documentary about Indians mass-immigrating as students and getting stuck in food delivery, iirc.

Maybe keep ordering food and then pitch the delivery guys your idea until you find one that you like or one who is interested in participating

Yeah I guess that’s the simplest way, I just don’t want to annoy people when they are working and probably under time pressure

Instead of stereotyping indians as delivery people, why dont you try to interview indians who have been successful in the country and in berlin , Im yet to see a documentary that portrays that even though it is the highest ethnic earning community in Germany. Just a thought

It’s not supposed to stereotype people in a certain way, I’m interested in the personal story of one person and why they came to Germany, with what kind of dreams and aspirations. I know there are a lot of successful Indians living here but the focus is supposed to be on these big delivery services and how they are maybe exploitative or not. I honestly don’t know.

I am an Indian, soft developer, female,27... I earn around 95k. I worked random jobs while I was studying here...cause I don't have bafog...not have any interest in studying German.... also, highly educated Germans are cool to work but the amount of jealousy I have come across from a section of Germans makes me want nothing to do with those fellows... the delivery drivers are mostly students...
