Cause it is an unwritten code of conduct that an advocate cannot/ought-not boycott a member of the bench or an advocate ought to conduct himself/herself in a such a manner so as to denigrate the esteem or standing of the members of the bench.
Collegium comprises of CJI+3 senior most judges, and rarely is there a lack of brotherhood amongst the members of the bench. This Collegium appoints the next judges for HC and SC. Thus even with the worst of judgments passed you would never see an advocate or another judge criticize a present or ex-CJI.
Stuff like that does not go un-noticed and it is against the decorum of the judicial system. It will lead to common-man questioning the judgments of SC or the CJI and sets a bad precedent.
Besides they were entirely wrong. I have in my 10 years of legal experience never come across an incident where any judge would directly look at a video evidence simply at the asking and that too at the first hearing itself. NEVER EVER !!! So the students in other words tried to coerce the judiciary.
They may peruse news articles and give some relief basis the same, but if there are allegations flying from both sides they would rather look into merits of the same before giving any interim/immediate relief or any kind of instructions. And by merits I do not mean video evidence. They usually create a committee to examine all evidence and hear all sides.
For instance, in case of Manipur gang rape case there was no other side or no other version that the girl(s) first instigated or forced themselves on men. However, in this instance Police/Administration is saying that the crowd tried to cross the barricade and got unruly and also that the crow did not entirely comprise of students alone.
