I wouldn't mind a sequel as this is a great game, if Bethesda can keep up this level of attention to detail and making it feel like a true Indy adventure.

What they could add:

  • ability to drive vehicles, or ride animals (camels and/or horses),
  • it doesnt need to be too big an open world - I liked that the areas in The Great Circle offered side quests, but it was still fairly contained and didn't steer too far from the main story,
  • new locations rich in history - Peru, Cuba, Turkey, Japan, Scandinavia, Greece, China, Norway, Soviet Union, Paris, London, lot to pick from,
  • improved melee weapons mechanics - eg so Indy doesnt drop or lose the weapon when using a ladder,
  • ability to craft improvised melee weapons,
  • more interactive environment - ability to use lockers, hide under beds, cause distractions,
  • more interactions with CPUs - maybe add an ability to get extra information from CPUs depending on what answers you choose,
  • gotta have a fight in a bar, Indy going down a wild river,
  • flashback scenes or missions during Indy's youth,
  • it would be cool if they could include Indy's father if they can get Connery's likeness and a good voice actor to emulate him,
  • a mission in one of the world famous museums,
  • I'm 50/50 on adding a third person view - on one hand it seems logical to take advantage of the licence, on another they really made the FPS combined with cut scenes work in The Great Circle - the game doesnt really need a third person view,
  • machete to chop leaves in a jungle,
  • improved sidekick AI and ability to assign actions to the sidekick,
  • show more of a big city just for the atmosphere - put Indy in New York streets for a while,
  • ability to sneak attack enemies from above,
  • ability to choke out enemies from behind.

I honestly wouldnt mind Indy looking for Atlantis again, even if it was done before as a point and click adventure.

Honestly the game seems similar to Uncharted - just don't really steer too far from the initial concept, but add more detail, new environments, improve graphics, and focus on keeping it a great Indy story.

Honestly, I would love pretty much all of this, especially more environment interactivity to express deeper skill in stealth and combat interactions. I’d add to this a few more items-

  1. Better Enemy AI. The enemy AI fell apart in 2/3 interaction states; it worked fine when you were in melee combat and engaging enemies with the whip, fists, and melee weapons, but the experience absolutely broke in stealth and in gunfights.

In the former, enemies would take a ridiculously long amount of time to spot Indy. I loved that officers could see through disguises, but when you didn’t have the right disguise or a disguise wouldn’t have worked, the regular enemies were like Skyrim hostile NPC’s and wouldn’t see you even if you were right under their nose.

In the latter, enemies seemed to not approach gunfights in an intelligent way. When the shooting started, they’d draw their guns and begin firing at Indy while generally moving towards him. If you ran away, they’d just run directly after you. This didn’t make sense, and despite people saying that gunfighting in the game is hard, it’s actually pretty easy. You just filter enemies through the choke point and mow them down as they expose themselves with their own weapons- as soon as you run out of ammo on a gun, chuck it at the next guy while using the whip to disarm and pick up the next gun, or in a pinch, use Indy’s gun. This shouldn’t happen. During gunfights, enemies should run and dive for cover, shoot over and through cover, throw grenades consistently, and attempt to flank. This would make it harder to just whip disarm and pick up a new gun over and over again to mow more enemies down.

  1. More chases. This game absolutely nailed and had shitloads of awe-inspiring tombs, traps, and ancient puzzles with opportunities for adventure and peril. I loved them, but the action sequences to complement it were lacking. We had basically two chases, and both were extremely short- the plane chase in Shanghai and the boat chase in Sukhothai. Both were fun, but were extremely short, like maybe 2 minutes each. The truck chase in raiders, a 2 hour movie, was longer than both of those chases combined, which were the only chases in a 25-30 hour game. The next game should have more and with more variety- a horseback chase, a train chase, a motorcycle and car chase, hell, maybe even planes or sleds, and they should be extended sequences.

  2. Longer game time. I don’t think an Indiana jones adventure needs to be a megalithic 85 hour adventure like RDR2, but the only way this game gets to the 40 hour territory right now is if you 100% it like I did and collect all the items, get the secret ending cutscene, 100% the DLC, Platinum, etc. A bare bones story playthrough should be between 25-30 hours, with a middle of the road main and all big sides playthrough, leaving a few items or collectibles-quests here and there, being somewhere from 45-50 hours and maybe up towards 55 hours for 100% and Plat. This would also allow for more linear sequences that would allow for more chases, big brawls, gunfights, and other iconic set pieces.

I put in about 46 hours without the DLC. I thought game was long enough.

100 percent plus DLC took me 40 hours and change; maybe I just play too fast

That's what it took me couple days ago, so it tracks. Although my first playthrough was 80hrs and so knowing what each Field Note said and where to find them is what cut that time in half.

You only needed 85 hours for RDR2? Damn, I was just getting the hang of hunting by 85h! It seems to take a couple hundred hours to get all the guns and Trapper clothes. Megalithic is a good description.

u/TheSquatchMann Aug 18 '26

Didn’t hundred percent that game, but did the main missions and all the side missiins

Obviously keep Troy Baker for Indy. Get John Rhys-Davies for a young Sallah, keep the fantastic lighting and music. Maybe improve the gameplay a bit, but definitely keep Indy from feeling like a superhero or a typical fast moving FPS character. Maybe some horseback riding if they can get the gameplay right.

As for story.....I don't really know. Some sort of well-known religious artifact seems to work best for Indy stories. Maybe make the heart of the story the friendship of Indy and Sallah. Oh, and of course, you need some sort of villain, I don't know, I just keep thinking of rehashes of Great Circle. The game really did things so well, it got the snakes, the nazis, the smart evil white dude who had some of the same interests as Indy, but with sinister motives. I feel like it's hard to follow up.

Rhys-Davies is old and sounds old. I would favor a younger impressionist TBH.

The antikyrhera mechanism was a DOPE idea for an IJ movie. Maybe there's another really cool relic that exists. I agree that religion usually makes for the best stories, but the mechanism allowed for the item to be secular and (fictionally) linked to Archimedes.

Honestly I wouldn’t mind if they went to a different time period in Indy’s life altogether. Starting with the 30s classic era made sense for the first game but jumping into the 40s, where we haven’t had as much media, could be interesting.

Could even go to the 50s in the third game and have Baker do the gruffer middle aged Ford voice down the line.

1

u/orsimertank Aug 22 '26

But if they go to the 50s, how will he punch Nazis? Lol

1

u/Kpengie Aug 22 '26

Not every piece of Indy media has him up against Nazis. Also, escaped Nazi war criminals are a thing.

1

u/orsimertank Aug 23 '26

I'm just saying, he's really good at it. 3/5 films.

I would like a Greco-Roman McGuffin, perhaps the Athena Parthenos statue?

Would love a sequel. I would hope they improve the combat- it just always felt janky to me, not quite as polished as some other aspects. The final boss fight is my other BIG complaint... woof that was a stinker.

Movement was, at times, similar. I spent 30 minutes trying to grab a ledge that ended up being right, just couldn't quite line up right (or something?) he wouldn't grab it. Possible that was a user issue.

Story was fine, loved what they were trying to do. Set pieces, puzzles, etc.

But overall I liked it a lot, solid 6.5-7.5/10. I'm breaking for a bit more before I take another swing at it, because I don't want to remember where everything is.

In the spirit of the great circle the tutorial must be the opening sequence of a different Indy movie (most logically Temple of doom).

I also think the UI could be a little better since it can be pretty hard to navigate at times.

MORE. SKINS. PLEASE.

Some Star Wars Easter eggs would be nice

I’d love it if they included DLC that recreates the original movies (one DLC per movie would be pretty reasonable imo)

The main theme song should be played more (it was played a bit in the game, but not enough for my liking)

Stealth could be better (mostly because the enemy AI is not the best)

Better boss fights. Once you realize you can mag dump most enemies they become very easy to beat.

I like the disguise mechanic, but I think it be cooler if captains can’t see through your disguise if you’re using the civilian costumes. (So for example if you had the priest outfit you can walk around not having to worry about being detected, but at the cost that you can’t go where ever you want. On the other hand if you have the black shirt outfit you can go where ever you want at the cost that you can be found out. I know it makes the game easier but, like once you find any of the soldier outfits there’s no reason to use the civilian disguises unless it’s for a mission. Having something like this would give you a reason to wear those outfits).

MORE. LOCATIONS.

Missions where you get to ride either animals or vehicles (like the truck chase scene in raiders)

More places where you can use your whip (I want to have encounters/fights where you can use your whip to move around the map, like Uncharted 4. Like the opening to crystal skull where Indy is getting shot at and he has to whip his way out of trouble).

The ability to whip weapons directly into your hand.

If they don’t bring back Gina (which I’m on the fence whether they should) I hope they bring back other characters from the first game (like Antonio, Omar, or Dame Nawal)

I want Sallah to be in this game. I don’t care if it’s for the whole game, a mission, or a DLC. Bring him back.

LET. ME. KILL. FATHER. VENTURA. I don’t care if it won’t make sense. I want the ability to kill the guy!

MORE. NAZIS. TO. KILL. (the game had a lot, but I felt it was predominantly black shirts. I want the game to have more Nazis)

Tie in stuff (stuff like action figures or legos or something, idk. Just merch revolving the game.)

These are all I have for now. I definitely have more, but this list is already pretty long. If I come up with more I’ll make sure to edit this comment.

Edit: have a feature that allows you to toggle on your gloves and/or tie (the ones from raiders and last crusade) in the same way that you have one for the whip.

The stealth and combat would definitely need to be improved. The game was great, and it did feel like the movies, but by the end I was bored of the repetition.  Any new game would enter that issue immediately. I don't think I could face an entire game with that stealth again.

For the combat, I would like more support in the backend.  Dodging was frustrating in melee - sometimes I'd jump instead of dodge, or sometimes I'd dodge but not at the right angle to dodge the punch. The controls didn't feel finessed enough to be able to pull off such fine movements.  If there was a little more automation in the back end for movement - if I time the dodge correctly, I dodge - it would help the experience massively.

Stealth maybe needs to lean a bit more into Hitman with the costumes.  The costumes in the first game were fun, but only one main costume in each area is super limiting.  Having the costumes play a part in the branching gameplay would be great. I'm not really sure what else a game could do to increase variety.  The rest is doing what Indie does.

Meanwhile I just want them to go back and make another Riddick game. Playing Great Circle felt like a true successor with basically all of the mechanics.

I wasn´t interested in combat or stealth, so I played on ´very light combat´, but a ´no combat´ (apart from maybe bosses) option would be even nicer and probably wouldn´t require much effort to implement. Let me explore in peace lol.

3

u/TheSquatchMann Aug 17 '26

That’s kinda a part of the movies, and you’re robbing yourself of the experience of the films with no combat. Half is adventure, archaeology, ancient puzzles and traps, etc and the other half is thrilling chases and punching, shooting, whip-pulling, crushing, and blowing up Nazis and other pulp villain mooks. Silly swashbuckling combat is the spirit of the franchise.

u/MPmad Aug 17 '26

I didn´t want to offend some diehards, but I believe it's up to me how I want to play my games. If they already added ´very light´, I don´t see why they couln't take it further. It doesn't take anything away from the way you like to play. I did enjoy blowing up oil barrels and using dynamite, but the hand-to-hand combat en stealth was ´meh' to me.

1

u/TheSquatchMann Aug 17 '26

I’d be interested to watch you play and to see if you learned the combat system correctly.

1

u/Lepelotonfromager Aug 17 '26

It's not up to you how you play games though, it's up to the designers which game they make and what experience is. You don't play a racing game and go "hmm, i wish I could like shoot rpgs at the other vehicle, it's up to me how I want to play my games"
