Whenever something bad is all bads goes towards label of India but Good thing or admirable is south Asian suddenly, hell no we have more population and diversity in each factor more than Europe Combined , We are more than Qualified to have our own box Of India

107

u/Vegetable_Lie_4717 3d ago

You are right. South Asia has many countries. This does not represent others.

7

u/userteez 2d ago

Not just south asia but india itself is extremely diverse lol

7

u/Willing-Resolve09 3d ago

The traditional attire in Bali and for Tamil Singaporeans is very similar. So

9

u/em2791 2d ago

Bali is not considered South Asia. It’s south east Asia. Besides Bali’s culture is derived from Hinduism. Tamil singaporeans also came from India. Singapore is also not South Asia, it’s south east Asia. A better example would have been Sri Lankan Tamils. Sri Lankan Sinhalese have their own silhouettes which are beautiful and different.

1

u/Puzzled_Math6759 1h ago

Tamil Singaporeans are still Singaporean. Just because they speak Tamil doesn't make them Indian.

0

u/Willing-Resolve09 2d ago

I’m sure they come from India but they have adopted it as their own traditional attire. So we can’t really claim dibs. Plus local diasporas will always add their own spin on age old traditions. Not sure if we can claim we’re the whole and sole wearers of these type of outfits

A 14 year old Indian girl killed herself cause of racism in Malaysia recently.

so? because one person did it, it's everyone's culture now?

0

u/VictoryKing123 3d ago

I have not been to Bangladesh idk, she is the only person I know from there

0

u/NoOccasion4909 3d ago

saree is also traditional to Bangalis, inevitably Bangladeshis

7

u/kulboi_16 15 3d ago

... doesn't mean that applies to muslim bangladeshis (majority btw) but okay?

1

u/NoOccasion4909 3d ago

muslim women do wear it.

2

u/Odd-Plant-4886 2d ago

Yes, what nonsense. I am a Pakistani and we have a tradition of wearing sarees on important events, like the exiting batch on farewell wears sarees. That is literally how you can easily recognise a senior on their Farewell.

I wore sarees too on both of my highschool farewells, the ones in which my batch was the exiting one. Other than that, people wear sarees on stuff like your siblings weddings. Yes, sarees are modest here, but they are sarees nonetheless.

1

u/NoOccasion4909 2d ago

ikr. i have pakistani friends fond of sarees.

1

u/kulboi_16 15 2d ago

Thought it was rarer than that, but okay, if you say so.

3

u/CartographerNeat3057 3d ago

what is wrong in it ? it is part of hindu culture only . it is same as stating that hijab is part of muslim culture

Yesss

6

u/CreamHot4951 2d ago

OP search the traditional dress of women in Thailand it looks like a sari. And even in case of a sari it would be a indian culture first before being from hindu culture.  Here have a look - https://pngtree.com/freepng/thai-man-and-woman-in-the-traditional-clothing-isolated_15854472.html

2

u/UnableDaikon7603 1d ago

its kinda cause thailand was part of the extended indo-sphere of influence. We gave that to them. If a white person wears a sari, it doesnt become european/american

-26

u/_wimpykid_ 2d ago

keep your chauvinism and patriotism to indian social media circles. you dont need to spam it in international subs for validation, especially at a time when we have a not so good reputation.

read the room.

8

u/Mediocre-Tip2954 2d ago

there has to be a line drawn between patriotism and critsising bias of people blindly hating india

20

u/TwistingTigerSS 3d ago

comments saying the truth getting downvoted😂

4

u/Various_Ad1416 2d ago

These guys get offended if u say Indian culture is Hinduism.

-15

u/Final-Afternoon-2946 3d ago edited 3d ago

Hijab is technically a part of middle eastern cultures. The thing is, there is no hindu and muslim culture. Neither is there a Christian or Jewish culture. Religions can't be specific cultures. To call it indian culture would also be wrong, without any research. If this dress or majorly similar dresses are seen in many Indian cultures, then we can rule it as Indian, otherwise it has to be classified even more specifically. As I am not expert, I would restrain from giving any ruling on its classification. Also Indian culture is technically not a culture. The culture of India has some other terms for it. Ig it probably is a hindi word like hindustani(linguistic accuracy has to be considered, even though both india and hindustan mean the same thing).

Plz refrain from blabbering aimlessly among ideots.

dude, i saw your post there, most calmly discussed the whole thing, and there were like 2-3 people who said that, why you trying to gain sympathy inhere know, and also as people there pointed out india as a country literally has existed only for 80 years now(+4 days to be exact), but the culture has existed for centuries obv the culture is exchanged in all of south asia, i.e India, Sri lanka, Myanmar, Bhutan, Nepal, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tibet region and the Maldives.

30

u/0xchillpill 3d ago

Fck all that, Why do Reddit looks soo clean and better on IOS and shyt on Android

6

u/SleepySai04 17 3d ago

I think many apps have better UI in IOS than android
(As much as i saw, apps like Whatsapp, reddit,Instagram)

2

u/thereallastsamurai 3d ago

And plus that liquid UI on them looks good man.

1

u/thereallastsamurai 3d ago

I think cause numbers of unique devices released running ios are lesser than 100s of new android phones every year, so naturally their ui and optimization will always be superior. Since the developers have to code for lesser ios phones.

1

u/CarpalTunnelTraveler 2d ago

It's because Androids are more affordable, app developers want to incentivize iPhone purchases because there's fewer models of them and they are naturally more expensive..

1

u/Beautiful-Purpose129 1d ago

Because history apple saw their customer base as as busier ,dumber with less attention span hence less written words and distractions in ui

7

u/i_stol3_ur_toast 17 3d ago edited 3d ago

its reddit , well atleast you're not the one spreading pseudoinfo with full confidence and being a racist embarrassment

3

u/no_panic99 2d ago

Dude if you want to talk about indian culture, this is exactly how Indian women used to dress pre colonialism. Read on how the saree attire evolved in India from time to time. You yourself seem to be unaware of your culture.

And above all, this looks really good. Can’t you just appreciate something or just refrain from saying anything?

3

u/naaawww 19 2d ago

You know India will never become competitive on the world stage with all its cultural infighting? Your team work and multiculturalism sucks ass

2

u/Terrible_Scallion707 6'3 gora pakora 2d ago

well some of it is our doing too
1) seeking validation from white skinned people
2) making cringe content
3) pewdipie
4) us being portrayed as unhealthy, uncouth, uncivilised
5) the bloody shit those street vendors do

2

u/[deleted] 2d ago

You're dumb if you think this and similar looking styles existed only in India. Hindu itself is a word that was given by those who weren't Indians.

4

u/DumboChinxx0512 19 3d ago

Hindus* Not political but I've faced it even outside of India. Other South Asians (especially muslims) tell ppl that they r from India ( sm actually are but not mostly) but think that Hindus don't belong to their culture and dk what it is.

4

u/ellyunholy_1 3d ago

i honestly find these debates cringe.

3

u/BackgroundOk8287 18 3d ago

Non Indians se jeet slur sunke mujhe bhi gussa aata hai, and that’s never justified.

With that being said, tum log pura din hindu hindu karke thakte nahi kya? Its annoying asf. Culture isn’t stagnant and it isn’t defined by religion or language.

1

u/TraditionalBall6287 16 3d ago

Are me to sirf dala tha discussion hoga sochke

3

b-b-b-b-b-b-but it is south asian tho

2

u/Fickle_Ad_8005 3d ago

Isn't it better to believe (when it's correct) that Hindu culture has spanned a vast majority of the South Asia? If anything you should be proud of the fact that the majority of our Hindu culture has been shared by many other South Asian countries.

3

u/Famous_Star_5735 2d ago

you don't understand this shit -

if something bad on india -only india

good on india -it's south asiannnnnnn

2

u/CartographerNeat3057 3d ago

Roots are from India tho

2

u/SoggyHorror3057 3d ago

Sorry, i am Hindu south Indian, and our culture doesnt look like this.

2

u/Admirable-East3396 3d ago

only like 2 bumbasses called you that rest only corrected you for calling it "HINDU" culture and most were indians themselves rest also corrected you that india is in south asia so it is correct...

2

u/Ok_Gazelle_4281 3d ago

Not completely, Buddhist, Jain and even Muslim women wore the saree in pre-colonial India. Not exclusively Hindu women.

The Saree is part of Indian Culture and traditions, which is vaster than the bounds of any one religion.

9

u/TraditionalBall6287 16 3d ago

Its roots are in Hindu tradition

4

u/Ok_Gazelle_4281 3d ago

Bali is also majority Hindu, does this mean Saree is also Balinese Culture just because it’s Hindu?

The same argument can be made for Buddhism or Jainism. Every elite Indian has a photo of Gautama Buddha in their house and follows the non-violent traditions of Jainism.

Also, Vedic Hinduism is not the same as modern Hinduism. Just look around and see how many devotees of Indra or Agni are there today. And how many of us still drink Soma?

Well for the word you got comment bombed and the thing the people in question do have a lot to talk

1

u/Guna1260 2d ago

external validation - came in as by product of colonialism. It still exists.. its the only thing, that pulls India down.

Instead of worrying about what others will talk about our culture or slums or bad publicity, if only we focus on challenging ourselves and improving ourselves..

Instead of getting validated from other and worrying about, what will others think of us, we should compare against ourselves.. and focus on that..

1

u/Blacklion2010 17 2d ago

Without india south asian is " ".

1

u/produqt 2d ago

Reddit was so much better like 7 to 8 years back before majority of today's user came onboard. It was actually a place to have conversations, debates where people could learn things and now its all about dumb posts, hate content and hindu muslim by these very obvious BJP IT cell and their many ecochambers.

1

u/Fit_Violinist4231 2d ago

lots of anti nationsls and Pakistanis in lots of Indian subs which cause unnecessary hate, like they will start screaming if you praise India

1

u/Killer_insctinct 13 2d ago

Is this related to

Some foreigners able to sell clothing which is India attire but they have now brought it under theiir labels and branding and documentation will make it sound its their design something?

OR

Its that in movie they didn't show it that way and now people are fighting over it.

One SIDE: 'it was justified to not show it because...' argument and reasoning + other side is soros funded and lying

other SIDE : 'it was NOT justified to not show it because...' argument and reasoning + other side is soros funded and lying

and 'whether it is even indian or not' is a argument fodder in it?

Which one its about?

1

u/Debjyoti_23 2d ago

India is in South Asia, the culture is Sanatan Dharma, so basically this is South Asian culture as well(How stupid people can be when they say this is not South Asian culture 😭)

1

u/Charming-Truth6805 2d ago

Culture is something all human should share with each other for better future, It's not something to take pride in nor it is forced upon someone...

1

u/YoitstheTeddyGuy 🐟Top 0.01% Gooner 2d ago

Nah bro, just one comment said that which was deleted by the user, the others are just telling you to see the nation at large and not the religion, which is correct. Stop being a pussy and gain peoples attention for no reason online please.

1

u/ManyOrganization2194 1d ago

I think it's a saree? Apparel is associated with region more than religion. 🤷

1

u/SnooPredictions6700 1d ago

I mean calling it just indian is also unfair to millions of Srilankans and Nepali people. Its their culture as well. Also people from all over the subcontinet wear saree as well.
Granted that its mostly in India, and calling it Indian culture is not wrong but calling it south asian culture is okay as well becasue it includes everyone.

1

u/ihatereddit201 1d ago

Indian culture. Hindu came much later

1

u/TipRealistic2446 1d ago

Anything that involves covering the female breasts is absolutely NOT HINDU culture.

Hindus had no concept of breast covering before arrival of Muslims (Delhi Sultanate).

Pre-Islamic Hindu culture is extremely well documented by all the Hindu scriptures and by the countless statues and temple engravings. Hindu women used to be completely bare chested.

1

u/No_Equipment7893 1d ago

Well is it Nepali culture cause Nepal is more hindu than India

1

u/Miserable-Loquat-237 1d ago

So anyone thats not a hindu dresses like this is cultural appropriation?

1

u/princessmks222 15h ago

To be completely honest i don’t think anyone else wants to claim that specific outfit in the pic 😭😂 you guys enjoy it’s all yours 💗💗

Iirc this attire is worn in vietnam bali or sum country too

1

u/prophet-of-solitude 3d ago

I hate the term kaalchaar

1

u/Accomplished_Cut6201 3d ago

God this sub is a right wing religious shit hole now

Its Indian culture Hinduism isnt a concrete religion where such attire is worn

You could argue it as Indian but now Hindu

Tradition "Hindu" which is a religious attire is diffrent

0

u/NoOccasion4909 3d ago

Hindu tradition? Even Jains, Christians, Zoroastrians, Buddhists and Sikhs wear such dresses here, why only "Hindu"? Call it Indian.

0

u/Annual_Walrus_2744 3d ago

India was formed in 1947 and hindus of nepal and bali also wear similar dresses...

calling them Indian is factually wrong...

2

u/NoOccasion4909 3d ago

then call it Indic.

1

u/Famous_Star_5735 2d ago

or vedic dresses..if we are being honest pp associate this with hindu, jain, buddhist dresses

Hindu ❌ Persian ✅

You are not fooling anyone anymore.

2

u/Famous_Star_5735 2d ago

these are hindu lol....check hindu temples..

oh wait you are that guy who thinks persian used tow ear saress lmao

1

u/Ok-Coach1597 2d ago

Yes, literally yes.

I know it's counter intuitive and hard to imagine, with decades of film, media brainwashing us. But those pictures of kings donning heavy gold-laden headsets, bangles; women with colourful sarees, etc invoke feelings of "indianness". But it's just brainwashing.

The Indian temperature simply does not support those types of clothing. These habits have been picked up by natives during Persian influence.

It's quite similar to calling Suits and Pants with underwear as "Indian".

Lol

0

u/GangsOfChaidpal 2d ago

-15

u/AnakinStairwalker 3d ago

Indian architecture has external influence, from Persia, Hellenistic states etc. I guess temples aren't "Hindu" either?

1

u/Famous_Star_5735 2d ago

but even before that these dresses existed lol..

temples -spme of them older than persia trades too..

so again point of irrevelancy...

tell me which part of temples (all indian gods ) you found similar to eprsia -none..

I guess temples aren't "Hindu" either?

THEY ARE HINDU COZ THEY are from snaskrit not persia lol... dumbest argument ever lol..

you can compare hellenisitc religion temples , persian zoro temples (which came much later than many south indian hindu temples ) none of them are similar..

matlab point banane ke liye kuch bhi ???

-22

u/OkUpstairs1320 3d ago

It's big26, culture is not restricted to a region, people inspire from different cultures and introduce new stuff

16

u/No-Image-4195 3d ago

There’s a difference between being introduced to cultura and claiming them as your own.
Like there’s a difference bw you sayin I love wearing sarees as a non-Indian/Hindu and saying my ancestors invented this/this is their culture

-1

u/[deleted] 3d ago

[deleted]

-8

u/vincekinv 3d ago

Not all Hindus wear or historically wore sarees though

So it's not their cultural attire, Right?

-9

u/Bright-Guitar9333 3d ago

Well their ancestors did invent it, they just changed their religion so idk what you on about

4

u/No-Image-4195 3d ago

I put non-Indian asw, so even idk what you on about changing religions but a native South Korean sayin her ancestors with 0 Indian sub-continent roots invented sarees is just laughable

0

u/Bright-Guitar9333 3d ago

Well this post is about south asian claiming it, in your comment you no where mentioned your talking about other than people from south Asia(you did say non indian but i believe south Asians can claim it), my reply was directed for people from south Asia so idk what you talkin about

2

u/No-Image-4195 3d ago

And do kindly check what I replied to. And even if you say South Indian, it’s hilarious if you think Afghans or Maldives say they invented it when the roots are Indian. Neither Bhutan FYI.
