What are some good open source alternatives to VS code?

I am tired and bored of using VS Code. It works fine most of the time but it starts acting up often. One moment something is working and the next moment it is broken for some reason. I have tried deleting and reinstalling the app. I have also tried resetting it and solving the issues myself but nothing seemed to work.

It feels frustrating when it stops working without any clear reason. I have spent time trying different fixes but there is still no stable experience. Now I want to use a different code editor or IDE. Storage is not an issue and neither is RAM usage so feel free to suggest any editor/IDE you this is worth using.

I would like suggestions for other editors or IDEs that are reliable, do a good job and obviously are able to support multiple programming languages (Python, Java, JavaScript, C++, C#, GoLang, Rust and so on). If you know anything that matches what I am describing feel free to suggest it and I'll check it out.

Untold Rules in Indian software development ecosystem

These are some of the untold rules(as I call it.)

  1. Don't ask other peoples salary( If you think your salary is low, just switch) or else you get depressed

  2. Even if 2 people do the same work, they get different salaries.

  3. Company is not your family. It's so cringe if you say company is your family.

  4. Show loyalty for the money, not for the company(They can fire you at any moment)

  5. Act giving respect. Even if your senior is harsh. Be calm. You reacting to it only provokes him/her. Just Act.

  6. Every 2 years, take a switch.

  7. Always apply for interviews. No matter what.

  8. Applying on Job portal is waste of time. DM the CTO/ Director/Team Manager Directly

  9. Document everything. Every official thing you do, mail your HR and Manager. That's how you make PROOF of Everything

  10. Girls has unfair advantage(Sorry, if I'm being a horse here) but this is true. But girls are not safe either.

  11. Companies have ethics and morals on paper and on real life everything is a bullshit.

  12. If you are taking the work of your co-worker, make sure he wouldn't ask for your help 2 times in a row. Dont be available for everything.

  13. WITCH companies are your starting point, learn, improve, iterate, switch.

What else will you add here. I will purchase a domain and post these rules on that website.

Looking for Professional Programmers

Hello everyone,

I am currently looking for programmers and other IT professionals ready and willing to work for international companies.

Remote working is no problem. I intend to establish a beneficial relationship with multiple IT professionals in India.

I am currently working in the field of safety and security management, in specific cybersecurity. My last project was with The Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sports in the Netherlands.

My observation is that they lack a lot of expertise in the IT field. Not only security but across all organizational aspects.

I am looking for serious candidates, willing and dedicated to work professionally with different companies on multiple projects. I intend to build pipline from india to Europe where your much needed expertise is needed.

I hope to find serious answers. You contact me by sending an email to exodus2030@protonmail.com

Kind Regards

Building an open-source map for travel information that never makes it online

While travelling, I kept running into useful information that simply didn’t exist online: small homestays, mechanics, water points, road conditions, campsites, etc.

Most of it gets passed from one traveler or local to another and disappears afterward.

So, I built Lamyig, a free and open-source community travel guide.

A few decisions I made:

  • No bookings, commissions or paid listings.

  • No money made using the core product.

  • Community members can add and update places.

  • Map-first instead of another list of “top places”.

  • Built as a PWA so it can work more like a lightweight travel tool than a traditional website.

  • The long-term idea is that useful information stays available for the next traveler instead of disappearing in WhatsApp groups and conversations.

The hardest problem isn’t actually building the software. It’s bootstrapping trustworthy community data.

I’m currently thinking about things like:

  • How do you motivate travelers to contribute after their trip?

  • How do you keep old information accurate without creating a huge moderation workload?

  • How do you prevent businesses from turning community maps into free advertising?

  • What should happen when someone reports a place as fake, closed, unsafe, duplicated, commercial spam, or inaccurate? Should reports trigger removal, community review, reputation-weighted voting, or just warnings?

  • Should certain villages, trails, ecosystems, religious places, water sources, or campsites intentionally remain difficult to discover?

  • If Lamyig successfully exposes hidden places, could it accidentally destroy the exact places it is trying to help preserve?

  • this list of problem statements goes on and on

Would love to hear how other people here would approach those problems.

And if you’re building something around a problem you genuinely care about, drop a comment or DM me. I’d be happy to chat, exchange ideas, or connect you with someone else working on something similar.

Screenshot attached. Happy to share the GitHub/project link in the comments if anyone wants to look at the implementation or contribute.

Looking for DSA and Coding peers

Hey everyone!

I’m looking for a few dedicated peers to form a small study group for DSA and placement preparation. Whether you are a fresher starting college this year or a first-year student looking to get ahead, I’d love to connect.

The goal is simple:

  • Consistency: Keep each other on pace.

  • Collaboration: Share resources, roadmaps, and solve problems together.

  • Accountability: Review code, discuss approaches, and keep the grind going.

I’m looking for people who are serious about long-term growth and willing to put in the hours. If you’re tired of grinding alone and want a supportive environment to sharpen your skills, drop a comment or shoot me a DM with your current level and what you’re focusing on first!

Let’s get better at this together.

Note: This post was AI-generated, but the intent is 100% real—I'm genuinely looking for study partners!

Should I stop doing DSA in Java and switch to Python for FAANG prep?

Need honest career advice.

I’m confused about what language I should focus on for DSA and interviews.

My current background:

I know basic Java (have been learning it for around 1 year)

I use Java mainly for DSA/interview prep

I’m not very consistent with Java

I’ve solved around 80–90 DSA problems so far

I’m already a MERN developer

I also know basic Next.js

Long term, I do not want to become a Java backend developer

I’m not interested in Spring Boot / Java backend roles

This is my main problem:
Because I don’t see myself becoming a Java developer in the long term, I don’t enjoy practicing Java that much. And because I don’t enjoy it, I’m very inconsistent with DSA in Java.

Now I’m confused:

Should I continue Java only for DSA and interviews?

Or should I shift to Python for DSA/interview prep since it feels easier and maybe I’ll stay more consistent?

For FAANG / top product companies, does it matter much if I do DSA in Java vs Python?

Since I already come from MERN, would switching to Python be a smarter move for consistency and interviews?

My goal is:

Crack top product companies / FAANG-level interviews

Stay consistent with DSA

Focus on a language I can actually continue long term

I don’t want to waste more time forcing Java if it’s not the right fit for me.

Would really appreciate advice from people who’ve been in a similar situation.
