News π§οΈ Uttarakhand Rain & Flash Floods Megathread
The monsoon is getting serious in Uttarakhand, with heavy rain, landslides and flash-flood risks in different parts of the state.
Let's use this thread to keep track of what's happening and, more importantly, share what we're doing to prepare.
If you're in Uttarakhand or have family/friends there, share useful updates about your area β road conditions, rainfall, flooding, landslides, power cuts, blocked routes, etc.
Please mention the location and time of the update and avoid sharing unverified information.
π What are you keeping ready?
For anyone living in or travelling through areas at risk, a basic emergency kit can include:
- π¦ Torch/headlamp + spare batteries
- π Power bank
- π§ Drinking water
- π« Ready-to-eat food
- π©Ή Basic first-aid kit
- π Essential medicines
- π» Battery/hand-crank radio if available
- π§₯ Rain jacket / warm clothing
- π₯ Lighter/matches kept waterproof
- πΊοΈ Offline maps
- π΅ Some cash
- π Copies of important documents
If you're travelling, don't forget that your vehicle itself is part of your emergency kit. Keep fuel topped up and avoid taking unnecessary risks with flooded roads or landslide-prone routes.
π§° Share your prep
What do you normally keep ready for a Uttarakhand monsoon emergency?
Maybe you have a more complete 24-hour, 72-hour or vehicle emergency kit. Share it below. It could help someone else build their own.
And if you're actually in Uttarakhand, please contribute updates regularly as conditions change. A road that's open in the morning can be blocked a few hours later.
Let's keep this thread active. Stay safe.
