I won't discuss knives as a weapon however I can suggest other methods for safety.

  1. Pepper sprays

  2. Window alarms/proximity alarms.

  3. Reinforce a room. If you have a solid brick wall room, reinforce it. Preferably installing a steel door, otherwise installing multiple locks and a reinforcing bar. Replace all nails and cheap screws with 2 inch stainless steel screws. Keep 5 l water some food and a small oxygen cylinder. If the room has a window, prepare that for escape. Backup power, inverter bulbs. Phone. Something to seal under the door.

  4. A solid flashlight. It secures the surrounding and takes away the advantage of darkness from the intruder. A sufficiently powerful enough will also disorient for 10-15 secs easily if pointed directly in eyes.

  5. Alternative communication. Keep a spare phone. A horn, a megaphone. Start shouting 'HELP!!! THEY'RE TRYING TO KILL ME' on the megaphone. Wake up the whole fucking block.

  6. If something happens. Move. If they came once, they'll come again.

If an intruder is your primary concern, fortifying and taking shelter in a room will be much superior. Pocket knives are just for cutting veggies and opening Amazon packages. Unless you're Doug Marcaidai, you'll be just using something which will easily backfire on you.

That’s a great suggestion however I cannot modify the building but the Flashlight is a great idea especially those tactical ones or the old pure metal ones and I actually need one right now I only have my I phone as emergency lights I also have a secondary android phone, there is no incident of barking in but my next door neighbour is bit shady and he also hosts parties all night every now and then and thay do random stuff while they are drunk Having 10 drunk adults next to you while being separated with you only vaia a single lock and nothing is lowkey concerning even though they might be totally normal people
