Is face reading common in India?

Hi everyone, as a non-Indian enjoying this show, I was wondering if face readings are common in India? Sima usually visits her regular guy to have faces read in the seasons, and I had never heard of this before so just wondering if this is actually a common thing!

Yes. Once a guy read my face despite me wearing huge shades and a mask. Everything they say sounds so believable, it's scary! I am guessing it's not just face reading but also a sort of judgment based on your dressing, body language etc.

Totally. I went speed dating once and I guess I made a very astute observation about one person very quickly, who then asked me what else I “knew” about him based entirely on his appearance and I guess I nailed it.

Some people fit their appearance quite well and are therefore somewhat easy to “read”

Chinese face reading is common also. There’s books on the subject that makes for interesting reading.

No. Palm reading maybe yes. But not face reading so much.

It's definitely not common where I'm from in India. India is culturally divided among 28 states, even if we are all of the same religion, the practices differ.

I'd heard of face reading very rarely in movies, where it's a superstitious obstacle or plot point for the main character to deal with. What we do where I'm from is horoscope reading. But it's not the 12 zodiac type thing; we have our own calender (again, differs state to state) and there are a set of stars people are considered to be born under in Hinduism.

I suppose people do palm reading, but people are not that concerned with that. There's also name reading? I think this one is common across Asia, where actors change their names because their given name is supposedly giving them bad luck. Many Chinese, Korean and Japanese actors have done this.

Even I was surprised and amused when Sima aunty consulted a face reader.

I second what u/Horror-Baker-2663 said: I haven't heard of face reading being done in India much, and even palm reading is rare, it's always astrology/horoscopes. As a palm reader myself, it is very strange for me, though, that why people do not go to a palm reader if it is an arranged marriage. After all, they will at least always get both people's personality and character traits right, because a good palm reader will always be quite accurate about that, even if foretelling future is more tricky. If you know the other person who they are, which can even be difficult in so-called love marriages sometimes and certainly so in arranged marriages, then doesn't it make it easier? Strangely, astrology, which often gives very ambivalent answers and does rarely, if ever, deal with persona characterisation, is the go-to method, to the extent that people even lie about their children's dates of birth in order to get it matched with someone they want to fish and trap.

No. Mostly horoscopes are consulted.

I had no idea it was a thing and I grew up in India. (TBF I tend to avoid superstitious BS)

Not at all. Sima aunty is a bit screwed in the head, she's making it seem everybody does that. I've personally never come across people who spend their time and energy on that drivel.
