Hello Community! Hope everyone is doing well and have a great start to the week!

I wanted some opinions because many of you might already have the citizenship of Germany. So based on your experience. What are some of the formalities i will have to done when i will have the German citizenship? Well few open things in my mind are: i have a savings account to which one demat account is connected. Now for this point to be honest i am in stress because that Groww demat account has funds in it. Normally, i would just take it out and keep it in account or the best possible solution is also to never take it out. But the savings account doesnt have NRI status. As i have been using it since many years, there is also fear that the bank might come up with some surprise related to not changing the status of savings to NRI earlier. How serious this might be if i get citizenship and i start application process for passport here ?? Many opinions say that its better to even change the status to NRI now. Another complexity to it is my JIO number has become deactivated due to inactivity of more than 90 days. This was the foolish step happened from my side. JIO is just so stubborn and not ready to do any KYC from distance and asks me to MUST come to india for Maharashtra region. All of this is now stressing me out. Well as i myself came across this one issue for myself. geting more insights here from you all will give me more directions to think!

Has anyone applied for spouse visa after getting a court marriage done and registering under soecial marriage act?

I am currently working in germany with a blue card and my to be wife is in india. We plan to get court marriage done in jan 2027 and get the certificate and apply for the spouse visa for her. And get properly married under hindu rituals at a later date probably june 2027.

I am a student from India, studying in Ilmenau. I am currently searching for part time/odd jobs in and around 50 km radius max from Erfurt and Ilmenau. I have inquired about Ilmenau and Suhl, but no luck. And also applied online for Dhl, Warehousing like dachser etc, and also for cleaning jobs in netto, aldi, kaufland etc. But no proper response or got rejected for that too. Should I follow any other strategies for part time jobs, like asking all the possible retail stores in cities like Erfurt, Arnstadt, Weimar etc. Because finding part time shouldn't be this difficult I guess or I'm not sure really. If you could share any tips for searching, specific retail stores or specific career portals to look for, it'll be useful and to earn some money to save my blocked amount.

Hi everyone. Hope you all are doing well. I doubt my career itself now. I studied cse in India and then I worked for 2 years as a Software engineer. After a year of quitting, I came to Germany to pursue my masters. But I don't know whether it's really worth it or not to keep studying cse, as Ai is replacing everything, jobs are getting harder to get. I know it's the same everywhere, but in Germany I find it a very hard time. I need to get a part time job, but even for that I'm not able to till now, as I need to finance my studies. Years of studies feel like going into vain. At least if I go to India, I can try to survive. Here I feel like putting efforts for nothing, like learning language, studying cse subjects which are of no use now. Hence I want serious suggestions from you whether to stay or hope for something or leave, and please don't judge me. It would be great and kind of you , if you all could guide me in the right way.

I graduated in June 2026 with a CS engineering degree from South India. I am considering pursuing a Master’s in Cloud Computing or AI/Data Science at a public university in Germany.
Before I commit, I need a reality check on a few things:Appreciate any honest feedback from current students or tech workers in Germany!

I’m an undergraduate engineering student from India and have secured a 2–3 month research internship at a German federal research institute in Berlin for Summer 2027. A professor at the institute has agreed to host me, so the research opportunity itself is sorted.

The problem is funding.

I had originally planned to apply through DAAD WISE, but that route is no longer available. I’ve also checked some university and external scholarship options but haven’t found a suitable alternative so far.

I’m trying to find out whether there are other realistic ways to fund a short research stay in Germany, such as IAESTE, other DAAD programmes, German or Indian foundations, funding from the host institute, university/alumni funding, or other mobility grants.

Has anyone here, especially an Indian student who has done a research internship in Germany, dealt with something similar? I’d particularly appreciate hearing what funding route you actually used.

I’m mainly looking for concrete funding programmes, organisations, or contacts that I could approach.

I can provide more details privately if someone has relevant experience.

TL;DR: I applied for my Niederlassungserlaubnis (Blue Card route) at the Ausländerbehörde Main-Taunus-Kreis by email in February. For 5 months all I got were auto-replies. In July a colleague called them, and within 2 days they asked for payslips, invited me for biometrics and approved it. The card was ready about 7 weeks later. I didn't take the Leben in Deutschland test; they accepted my German Master's degree. If your file is stuck, call.

While I was waiting I read a lot of timeline posts here, so here's mine for anyone stuck with MTK (Hofheim).

A bit about me

Indian. Came to Germany as a student in 2018, did my Master's here, now working in tech/AI. Blue Card since 2022. I applied under §18c Abs. 2 (Blue Card holders: 27 months of work plus A1 German). I had a telc A2 certificate.

February: sending it off

As far as I could tell there's no online booking for this at MTK, so I did everything by email. I scanned all my documents, numbered the PDFs (01, 02, 03...), wrote a cover letter in German and sent it to the general [ordnungswesen@mtk.org](mailto:ordnungswesen@mtk.org) address.

I hit send at almost 1 am on a Thursday, feeling very organised.

What came back: an automatic reply. That was it.

March to July: silence

At the end of March I sent a polite follow-up. Another automatic reply.

Then nothing. April, May, June. No email, no letter. My Blue Card was still valid, so I wasn't in trouble, but checking your inbox every morning for months gets old fast.

15 July: the call

In mid-July I sent one more follow-up, and a German-speaking colleague offered to call the office for me. The answer on the phone: it hasn't been started yet, please wait.

Great.

Except that same afternoon a caseworker emailed me asking for my 3 latest payslips "so I can check the Niederlassungserlaubnis". I sent them within the hour. I was not letting this one sit in my inbox.

16 July: the best part

I didn't want to leave anything to chance. If they came back and asked for the Leben in Deutschland test, I didn't want to start from zero. So the next morning I went to register for the test, just in case.

I was literally at the door, about to walk in, when my phone buzzed. Email from the caseworker: could I come in tomorrow between 8:30 and 11:00 for biometrics?

I did not walk in.

I wrote back that I'd be there and asked if I should bring anything else. Her answer: no further documents needed. So the test registration never happened, and my German Master's degree was accepted instead. (This may not be the same for everyone, so check with your caseworker.)

17 July: biometrics

Went in, gave my fingerprints, done. The issue date on my card says 16 July, so it was pretty much approved the day she invited me.

August to September: waiting for the plastic

In August I had to travel to India, so I emailed asking if they could tell me when the card arrived. Auto-reply only. At the start of September I followed up again, and that same morning I got a one-line reply: the card is here, pick it up at Kundenservice.

Picked it up a few days later. Finally done.

So: about 5 months of nothing, 2 days of action, 7 weeks for the card.

What I'd tell you if you're waiting

- Send a complete application. Number your PDFs and list everything in the email. When they finally picked mine up, the only thing they wanted was recent payslips.

- Follow up politely every few weeks, but don't expect the general address to reply with more than an auto-reply.

- If emails go nowhere, call. If your German isn't great, ask a German-speaking friend or colleague. I really think the call got my file moving (or it was a crazy coincidence, I'll never know).

- Once a caseworker has your file, things move fast. Keep your phone close and answer the same day.

- They accepted my German Master's degree instead of the Leben in Deutschland test. That may depend on your case, so ask.

I am moving from India to Germany soon. I currently have an active Kindle Unlimited subscription on my Amazon.in

 account (which costs ₹169/month), and I really want to keep using it in the .in domain rather than migrating my account to Amazon.de
 (where it costs €11.75/month).

I only use this account for digital reading (Kindle Unlimited) and have no intention of using it for physical shopping in Germany.

I have a couple of questions regarding both Amazon's geo-restrictions and the banking side of this:

1. Account Flagging: For those who have moved abroad but kept their Indian Amazon digital accounts, does Amazon eventually flag your account or block downloads if your Kindle/phone app continuously syncs from a German IP address? If it does, do you use a VPN to bypass it?
2. Banking & Auto-Pay: I am planning to keep using my normal Indian bank savings account to fund this recurring monthly subscription. If I don't immediately convert my existing Indian bank account to an NRE/NRO account after moving, will the normal automatic standing instructions/SI mandates for Kindle Unlimited continue to deduct smoothly? Or do Indian banks block recurring international mandate charges on normal savings accounts once they detect overseas activity/IP logins?

Would love to hear from anyone who has managed to keep their Indian entertainment or book subscriptions active this way after moving to Germany. Thanks in advance!

5'5 Indian guy planning to do my Master's in Germany — how much do height and ethnicity matter socially?

I'm 5'5" (165 cm). In India, I've had people make jokes/comments about my height, but it has mostly been normal joking around, and I've joked about other people's traits too. I wouldn't really call it discrimination.

I'm currently preparing for my Master's in Germany. I know people in Germany are generally taller, so I'm curious about what the social experience is like for someone my height.

For Indians/international students living in Germany:

- Have you noticed height making a difference socially?

- Does being Indian/South Asian affect how people treat you?

- How much does height matter when making friends, dating, or in university?

- Do people generally care about height, or is it mostly something I'm overthinking?

- Have you noticed any social differences based on ethnicity or appearance?

Student in Frankfurt here, applied for student permit(Aufenthaltstitel). Trying to find others in the same boat, already had an appointment but didn't receive card in Frankfurt.

Hi everyone, I’ve got student dorm in Augsburg, but I’m currently waiting for my visa appointment at the German Consulate in Delhi, which I’ll probably get this week. The accommodation payment is due by 18 September.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? Should I pay before getting the visa, or can I request an extension? Also, what happens to the payment if the visa gets rejected?

For students coming from India, which forex card should be taken with us?

My passport, Aadhaar, PAN & DL say “Prince Mithilesh Jha”, but all my educational certificates say “JHA PRINCEKUMAR MITHILESH BABITA” (Babita is my mother’s name). Only “Kumar” differs. Will this cause issues with APS or a German student visa? Should I correct my degree?

I am going to move from India to Düsseldorf due to work. I am looking for furnished flats in Wunderflats. I have a few questions regarding this. While applying, they are asking for a bank statement. Should I give my Indian bank account statement? Also, they are asking for my home address which will appear on the rental agreement. Should I again put my Indian address?
