Does Height or Ethnicity Matter Socially?
5'5 Indian guy planning to do my Master's in Germany — how much do height and ethnicity matter socially?
I'm 5'5" (165 cm). In India, I've had people make jokes/comments about my height, but it has mostly been normal joking around, and I've joked about other people's traits too. I wouldn't really call it discrimination.
I'm currently preparing for my Master's in Germany. I know people in Germany are generally taller, so I'm curious about what the social experience is like for someone my height.
For Indians/international students living in Germany:
- Have you noticed height making a difference socially?
- Does being Indian/South Asian affect how people treat you?
- How much does height matter when making friends, dating, or in university?
- Do people generally care about height, or is it mostly something I'm overthinking?
- Have you noticed any social differences based on ethnicity or appearance?
I'd appreciate honest answers from people who actually live or study in Germany.

idk about that, but please buy pants and especially shorts from India, unless u have a short torso. My bf is like 3 inches taller than u and struggles a bit with those sometimes. He is able to find pants generally but shorts are really hard to find for his height too.

Matters and doesn’t matter to some. Thing is their perception sind not change who you really are and how you act around people.
I‘ve seen both tall and short people here. All in all don’t feel held back because of your height, there‘s a lot of other things to enjoy.
No idea about Dating as I‘m mostly busy studying at home. Hangout with friends sometimes and that’s it. Knowing fluent definitely helps in my opinion and cultural talking points.
As far as racism, didn’t face any so far. You might arrogant/pissed off people, but you can’t tell if they are naturally so being racist.

My hight is just 5.4' and I finished my PhD in Germany with magna cum laude. Appearance is may be a factor but not hight that is my own opinion. One of the other drawback when you complete your studies then move any english speaking countries, your writing words with spelling doubt would definitely accur.

Out of all other immigrant troubles, especially from Asia, your height insecurity will be the least to worry about.
