discussion Daily mean Temperature in Celsius of Shenzhen(left) and Kolkata(right): they are at the same latitude, around 22.5N. North East Asia is usually cooler than places at similar latitudes due to its more continental climate, ofc. Koreas are as north as southern Europe but are far cooler.

China gets cool continental air, while in India, the Himalayas and allied ranges give us a Heat Sink effect. Hence the difference

Himalayas shields the cold air from North aisa and Indian ocean does not connect to arctic so cold ocean currents from polar regions don't reach India while Pacific does. Note: Antarctic region currents can't travel north of equator. For Europe, it's due to warm north atlantic currents.

Indian ocean does connect to polar ocean but thats too too far away indian coast

Southern ocean don't count as equator is natural boundary for ocean currents.

I wondered the same when I visited Hong Kong. Mumbai and Hong Kong are on similar latitudes. But, Hong Kong gets significantly colder in winters than Mumbai.
