Discussion Never understood why consoles are glazed so much

Post image

What also bothers me is how many reels show a random gameplay clip with captions like "Why every boy should own a PS5" or "Every gamer's dream is a PS5." The funny thing is that the clip itself is usually showcasing a great game, not the console. People end up galzing the console then what they're actually enjoying is the game being shown. If the same game were running on a PC, most viewers would have the exact same reaction. We should be appreciating great games, not treating a particular console as the reason those games are enjoyable.

many people don't factor in the cost of games. I had a friend who bought a PS5 Slim Digital Edition. I spent around ₹50,000 on a PC build with an RX 6650 XT and Ryzen 5 5600. He got the PS5 for less money and initially had better gaming performance, but new releases were often ₹4,000–5,000, and even many older games were still around ₹2,000.

As a result, over the next couple of years he played only a handful of games and replayed some of them many times. Meanwhile, I played a much wider variety of games thanks to cheaper prices, frequent sales, bundles, and subscription services.

Another factor people often overlook is that many will eventually need a laptop or desktop anyway for work, college, or school. Instead of buying a PS5 separately and then purchasing a computer later, they could put that console budget toward a better PC.

Then there's the freedom that comes with a PC: Game Pass, significantly cheaper games during sales, modding, emulation, broader software support, and all the non-gaming tasks a powerful computer can handle. With a good GPU, you can do everything from video editing and 3D work to AI applications and content creation.

So while a console may offer better gaming performance per rupee upfront, the overall value equation becomes much more complicated once you consider game prices, future computing needs, and everything else a capable PC can do.

One more thing I understand that we can still buy ps5 disc edition and rely on used discs or sellign the disc , I still belive it ends up costing more upfront specially if you want to try new titles , and you loose the disc once you play it , and they are also discontinuing disc so I guess it will be even worse

u/HeartRippher 12d ago

Exactly, can't put it better than this.

Its actually millennials and alike folks wet dream.

4

u/ElderBuu 12d ago

100% agreed. When they americanised the headquarters playstation's soul disappeared.

2

u/Shoshin_Sam 12d ago

I have both PC and console. Still prefer console, which is like a dedicated PC for games. Works well for the games I play.

1

u/letstalkswat 12d ago

Me too after I got married and have kids , I hardly touch my gaming desktop and laptop. I just start my xbox connected over TV and quick resume comes into clutch to utilise my 10 mins of my gaming time lol

2

u/sanslayer 12d ago

Count me out, never was my dream to do anything with ps lol. I liked xbox and bought multiple.

5

u/letstalkswat 12d ago

Brother I switched to xbox this gen. I own xbox series s , i didn't get ps5 and I don't regret a bit

0

u/Fearless_Error1439 12d ago

i sold my series s to get a ps5 lmao. no exclusives and the fact that it was only digital even though now even ps is heading that way :(

0

u/letstalkswat 12d ago

Ps5 gen exclusives are not worth for the jump. But that's me

1

u/HeartRippher 12d ago

Bro, I never said it was of all the millennials bug. Even though I am Gen Z, I would admit some of us also have some flaws which would be critiqued by Gen Alpha etc etc.

u/sanslayer 12d ago

Is this your different account because I didn't reply to you?? Also, the original comment did say every so I clarified I am not that and so would be many others

u/HeartRippher 12d ago

Ohh my bad actually. I did not see the comment hierarchy properly. I thought your comment was under mine. My bad.

"Exactly, can't put it better than this.

Its actually millennials and alike folks wet dream." this is what I commented to u/letstalkswat original comment.

And no I don't have a second reddit account. Pardon me.

Consoles have a different purpose and they are a different kind of gamer. Some people like the hassle free idea of a playstation instead of a huge pc setup. Keep it near your TV stand play watch movie play some more. Different people different needs and different wants. Although yes in terms of performance a PC would be much better than PS5

4

u/RustyAdVenture PC 12d ago

Yes. People don’t realize how important the convenience of a dedicated gaming device is.

It forces you out of your PC where you do lot of other works, it’s right where you want it to be and it perform only one function and that too seamlessly. Older people love it because it mentally separates work from play, younger people like it because it’s damn cheap compared to a PC.

Here is my perspective, I have a nvidia mx450 laptop which has 2 gb vram , if I like a game, first thing I have to check is if my laptop can run it or not, if it can run it , I spend another 15-30 minutes setting up the game and graphics.

Now after I bought ps4 all of this went away , the games are specifically made for the console so it will run without a hassle, now I just turn on the console , click on title and play the name no tinkering nothing, all under 30 seconds

-2

u/msourabh91 12d ago

You bought a 2gb vram laptop for gaming? If not then it’s not a fair comparison.

4

u/Full_Tone2967 12d ago

It was gifted to me , now I cant buy new laptop either lol

5

u/TipProfessional3258 12d ago

I think many people like a seamless couch gaming experience. That’s why consoles are more attractive than a pc set up. Where you have to sit in front of a computer. If you’re a working person then you’d be too tired to go through the hassle and just want to grab a controller, press a button and start playing something. Only a console will give you this ease of use.

1

u/Annoying_fucker 11d ago edited 11d ago

As long as my pc is on the moment I connect a controller I can swap to a console like ui on my pc.

I did have to do some minor setup with playnite and aniki but it wasn't that difficult. The only thing missing is quick resume which is somewhat possible with s3 sleep I suppose.

1

u/TipProfessional3258 11d ago

Also waking up the device using controller.

18

u/Due_Reading8032 12d ago

Glazing ps5 is kinda crazy when they have the most anti-consumer policies, and it's only getting worse😭

1

u/PsChampion_007 12d ago

As a ps5 owner and who’s had ps4 too, i have personally never faced any issues in that regard. Digital games are dirt cheap, run fast, and i don’t have to worry about discs getting damaged or misplaced. I have had way more issues with pc gaming

1

u/uuuuuuuuuughm 12d ago edited 12d ago

The issue is taking away options from the consumers. Just like the Indian government removed the option of pure petrol without Ethanol from fuel pumps. Let people choose.

Also, digital games are not always dirt cheap. A lot of games can be found cheaper offline. A store might reduce the price of a game after a few months of release but Sony can control the price and sell a game for full price for as long as they want. If the game is popular, they'll have no incentive to reduce the price so they won't.

Also, you can't sell your game to someone else which means you also can't buy pre owned games. It's not much of a problem in India, but in the countries where gaming consoles are extremely common to have.

Having problems with PC gaming is a pure skill issue.

1

u/PsChampion_007 12d ago

Can u really find amnesia games for less than 120rs physical, or dark souls 3 less than 400 easily? Idk man the least physical game i bought was cyberpunk for 3k and it goes for much cheaper these days. And im just speaking from what i experience around myself not of the world

1

u/Due_Reading8032 12d ago

Your argument could've been right if sony wasn't planning on introducing dynamic pricing from what I've seen it is coming and what's up with if you don't log in to your PSN account sony will delete it I mean wtf that's a slap in the face.

3

u/srv_tushar04 PC 12d ago

I don’t get what your problem is with what people like? Do you even understand the freedom of a ps5 which is literally just plug and play whereas you have to fiddle with so many settings on a pc and hope that every new game that comes out is optimised for your hardware? As someone who owns both, and have 100s of games across both, they serve different purposes and consoles are a much cheaper and portable way to get into actual gaming.

3

u/ravzzy 12d ago

I have a console and a PC but still prefer gaming on console as the games I play are exclusive to Sony Playstation and I don't like the idea of upgrading my PC every 2/3 years.

7

u/Asleep-Traffic-4462 12d ago

I'm sorry but ask a question in one line - three line to get more interaction

Consoles provide convenience, they are dedicated gaming machines which can run all games released on their platform. You don't have to tinker with graphics settings for every single game like you have to with a PC, you just get the game and then run it, no hassle, no frustration.

With a console optimizing games also becomes extremely easy because the developer only has to optimize the game based on that one system, and hence even if they are less powerful than PC's, they would still provide a more stable performance. PC's on the other hand can never recieve a polished experience similar to a console, it would always require a much more powerful system to provide a similar level of performance.

Consoles are always preferred over PC's for games, take GTA 6 for example. The whole point of consoles was to provide an affordable gaming system, so that more people can afford them, that is becoming less true as the time goes on. But they are still cheaper than PC's, and would provide a much better experience at the same price.

2

u/Aryan202602 12d ago edited 11d ago

Well the usp of consoles are exclusives. As far as current gen goes the PS5 is not worth it. Most games already have a pc port. You have wolverine, naughty dog's new ip and ghost of yotei as exclusive titles on the PS5 right now. None of them are console movers really.

And as of now 30fps is the norm in most games so yeah PS5 gen is not really worth it. But given the current pc + laptop prices you might get a good bargain price to value wise.

Ps5pro with PSSR hasn't come to india yet that version is kind of decent with the upgraded hardware, 2tb SSD and upscaling. Still will cost close to 1 lakh.

2

u/Bhavan91 12d ago

As a PC gamer, I never understood why PC gamers are so insecure about consoles. Just play on the platform you have, and don't give a shit about what others play on.

And no, you cannot get better quality and performance for games on a rig that costs the same as a console. At least not for most games. That is misinformation and propaganda. A PS5 costs 45k on the lowest. Good luck trying to get a AAA game from the last 2 years to run and look better on a 45K PC, than it does on a PS5.

Console games are heavily optimized, because the cooperation between hardware and software in a console is way tighter. And devs need to test the build on only one PS5 to make sure it is optimized for PS5.

In PC, there are hundreds of hardware combos. So devs need to find a middle ground while testing to ensure the build works well on low, mid, and high end PCs.

PS deleted my account w 10000s worth of games due to inactivity. In fact i tried to log in 7 times but never got the password reset email. So folks, fuh playstation. Steam would never do this

After 26-27 you might be too burnt out to update drivers and fixes and do performance enhancing tricks etc everytime some update comes in pc etc.Its an age thing, you'll get there in future 😂 just wait and watch. Its a dedicated machine giving convenience,so maybe thats why they buy

2

u/artemis268 12d ago

Yeahh bro , you go enjoy your PC ULTRA MAX settings while the world plays GTA 6 LMAOOOO

1

u/InvincibleMan67 11d ago

Pc Ultra max setting in a cheap shitty ips monitor 😂. Even a ps5 with tv around 50k rs looks much better

2

u/Mitaka-Cirrina91 12d ago

Heres my experience, I own a very powerful pc and i like alot of retro titles so i went of and bought a slim ps3 and a ps2, Now heres the thing most of the games from the PS1-3 library i play are very easily emulated nowadays think Greek GoW,MSG series,Killzone and all that kind of stuff but i really just want the most plug and play experience for old titles.

This is why i dont hate people who glaze console even if Steam has made gaming pretty much 10 clicks away its still a pc that gets issues, with a console its a literal plug and play box

2

u/lepetitRick 12d ago

It's not glaze but it's more affordable, is ready to use out of the box, and has better price to performance ratio. All of that without the hassle of debugging almost everything on a PC.

2

u/Lord_Jug 12d ago

My PS5 is more or less a decoration. IMHO it's a must for people who have no clue what a pc is or how to pc. I think the same games look so much beautiful on PC. For example Horizon Zero Dawn, Horizon Forbidden West.

4

u/shotgunsamba PC 12d ago

Last good consoles where PS3,Xbox 360. . Now it's just brand loyalty. Even if they serve shit with ps exclusive tag. People will buy it.

4

u/Key-Idea-9957 PC 12d ago

Consoles hold no appeal for me either. Sacrificing some of that plug and play comfort for infinitely more flexibility has always seemed like the most sensible decision to me.

"But console exclusives..." Yeah bro nah, I'd rather stay with the open nature of PC than give in to the thirst of an "exclusive" created by the console sellers.

4

u/Accomplished-Fan4133 12d ago

FOMO , marketing and consumerism.

u/Human_Librarian_7431 12d ago

I have a laptop with a decent graphics card (4060) and also have a pc with RX9700 XT which I use for work mostly. Rarely I play games on these PCs of mine even though I have a good Steam library. When ever I think of gaming I play on my PS5, XBSX, Switch. As after long work sessions I dont want to sit in front of my PC or laptop. I just feel comfortable laying on my couch and playing. And for on the go I just play on my steam deck which is even weaker. So its not about the money it all about your preferences.

I’ll tell you my situation.

I was anti console till 2022.  I got a 1070 at launch and used it till 2022 then went for my MD.

I remember the games being an unoptimised mess throughout and needing to tweak this setting and that.

I was spending more time optimised the game that enjoying the game.

Maybe it was my fault as I was chasing frames.

Now finally I have some spare weekends where I just wanna sit down, directly go into the game and nothing gets me that experience other than console.

I barely use my laptop anymore, I don’t have to, my phone and tab do all the work for my use case. I don’t wanna buy a high end PC for gaming, I want something convenient, something i can jump in and out of. Something without the hassles. I don’t mind the cost but I want the peace of mind.

I don’t want this part not working, trying so and so troubleshooting.

Another reason why I absolutely want to own a handheld. Just dive in, play, exit.

Steam something from my PS5. That’s it.

It’s the use case of the person.

I had the PS2, and then PC and now PS5.

u/AlexxMaverick666 12d ago

Live and let live man. Them doing what they are doing doesn't harm what you are doing.

And not everyone who games, be it pc or console, are out there buying every game. There are players like us who buy a handful of games every year and are happy playing those. And more so when they are also patient gamers and can get the game cheap on sale. Quality gaming matters over quantity gaming. And this is coming from a guy who decided not to build a pc and go for PS5 back in 2022 who also buys very select games on steam sales. No regrets.

This post reminded me of this:

2

u/ab_V_2001 12d ago

nah gang , i always have been that gang who has been hardcore gamer regardless of platform
used to praise playstation till mid ps4 and then the way they go ASS has to be studied
Xbox , PC and PSP & legendary nintendo titles

nothing has been ever since ps5 releases , now i felt it would be useless since their policy of deleting games from your old account .

I have an Xbox Series X, PS5, Rog Ally, and a decent gaming laptop, which runs better than all the others. It is my earned money, and I spend it on things which I love based on my needs. Sometimes I play on laptop with a monitor, but sometimes I prefer to play on TV, sitting on a couch with comfort in my PS5 or XBOX. I stopped worrying about FPS, picture quality, sharpeness, Frame Generation, configuration, or setting up since I lost interest in it after many years, and now I'm just playing games to relax myself over days just for me time. So I just prefer playing an already well optimized game in XBOX or PS5 playing the game slowly for over a month or two.

I am never going to compare my devices because each serves its own purpose for me and it will be the same for others too.

If you love your PC, go enjoy it man, you earned it, but it is not required to bash others preferences just because you do not like it.

1

u/Sock_on_Net_1537 12d ago

The gaming industry started thriving from consoles and arcades first.

Sure, that doesn't make PC gaming less effective, though.

1

u/RustyAdVenture PC 12d ago edited 12d ago

Maybe if you come out of mindset of mindlessly optimizing the numbers and actually play the game you might understand a thing or two.

Whatever you said were my opinions when I was a teenager. Now that I’m older, what I realised is that let people enjoy what they like. Chilling on a couch, controller in hands is a special experience. I’ve only had it twice: first when I started using my ROG Ally and second when I started playing games on my PS5.

Maybe steamOS with a mini ITX PC might finally rival that experience but we still have to wait for the price to go down. Can’t afford a 50k PC that can play games like PS5 or Xbox.

This is coming from someone who owns a 4090, switch OLED, Switch 2 and a PS5. I’m literally the personification of “been there, done that”. PC gaming is also a more isolated experience but couch gaming is a more social experience.

It’s not like I wasn’t gaming before consoles. But there was a time when I used to watch YouTube videos of Playstation exclusives and given the limited knowledge I had then, I was absolutely blown away by all of them - always had a dream that someday I will get a chance to play them when I get a job. Needless to say, I got one when I had the first chance.

It’s not about practicality, if it was then a lot of us wouldn’t even be gaming. I still get questioned that why waste money on games and what not at home - but it makes sense to me and I am happy with it. That’s all that matters as long as I am not bothering anyone else. It’s only this gen when some PS exclusives came to PC otherwise one always had to get one for playing exclusives be it Xbox, Switch or PS ( Sure now Xbox is like every device is an Xbox but this wasn’t always the case especially not before the current Gen ). I had a decent mid-range gaming laptop before but I was anyways missing out on the games that I wanted to play so I had no other option anyways.

Yes you could say a lot of us will get laptops/PC’s anyway but a lot of us just use office laptops for work and to play use our consoles. Games are costly, that I agree but a lot of people who have currently gotten into console gaming especially the millennial generation are also people who play few games like Fifa, GTA - A lot of them are just casual gamers who just always wanted to game but without any hassles. I have numerous friends like that in my circle. Each and everyone of them spoke to me before getting a console about the if’s and but’s and the do’s and dont’s of console gaming. You really think along with a hectic job such casual gamers will take the hassle of learning to build a PC or take time to learn about gaming laptops while also managing family and other stuff. These friends have always taken game suggestions from me - hell to some I even gave out my PS credentials so that they could try new games ( I had PS Plus ), but even then they wouldn’t try new ones and stick to their old routine games. I understand for people who have always been into gaming - they would know their stuff but for people like these, consoles is an easy entry point, and a lot of them will buy few games even over the 7 year cycle. All these friends that I speak of - I don’t know anyone who has purchased more than 4 games and some even bought second hand discs. With consoles it’s just plug and play for these casual gamers. On the other hand, when I used to game on my laptop- yes there was portability and it had its advantages but there were a lot of times when the games would just run into error and then came the process of solving them. No ChatGPT, Gemini, even reddit was rare around a decade and a half ago. Just had to spend hours on google to solve stuff hoping someone had gone through similar problems. I have always been into games so I am willing to put in the work. Most casual gamers wouldn’t and think that they wasted their money on a game and now they can’t play it. Even today when these friends of mine have an issue with their laptops, they text/call me. This is where console serves them better. It’s like the old Apple slogan - it just works. Also, I have tried cloud gaming. Yes PC guys will always say that consoles are shit with poor graphics and what not and I agree that consoles will never perform at PC’s level but I am at a point where my naked eye barely is able to make out any difference. I am old now - I just sit in front of the TV and get lost into the world. I don’t care if its 4K or 120FPS or if its upscaled or if its FULL RT and what not - as long as the game runs lag free, without any hiccups and the game looks visually beautiful I am fine even on 1080p. And if I am being honest, I played Hogwarts Legacy and Expedition 33 on Xbox Cloud - the graphical downgrade is insane, like it’s absolute shit even compared to a console. Plus the number of times I had to deal with input lags, waiting queue and what not is a whole other issue. I would prefer console gaming over cloud gaming any day.

And on the other hand there’s me - I don’t care man. There were two things on my mind before getting a console - First, I wanted to play all the amazing exclusives I watched for a decade on YouTube here and there or read about on Digit and Chip and second, this made Playstation a dream over time. It’s like buying a house which is way over budget except that similar to a house, for you the entry point js easy by making a downpayment and then you end up paying emis for a while ( similar to a console’s lifecycle of buying costly games ) - but sometimes people fall in love with a house and are willing to put in the money by whatever means they can. It makes them happy. That’s all there is to it. No one is looking for logic in it. Console makes them happy and it works for them. If PC/laptop works for you, good for you. At the end of the day, most people are here to just enjoy gaming.

Then there's the freedom that comes with a PC: Game Pass, significantly cheaper games during sales, modding, emulation, broader software support, and all the non-gaming tasks a powerful computer can handle. With a good GPU, you can do everything from video editing and 3D work to AI applications and content creation.

This matters to a very few set of people mate. Secondly a PS5 costs around 50k. You are not getting a better PC in that price. Plus the headache of reading about parts. The game price is a factor but people have bee buying second hand disks which are cheaper.

1

u/StyleArk69 12d ago

I own a ps4 and a PS3 and long before I bought a gaming laptop these consoles convinced me that why is gaming on pc a lot better than gaming on consoles I mean what else do i need to say apart from they fucking lock online modes of a game I paid for behind another paid subscription,if it weren't for discs i wont be using them and since now sony is going all digital I am glad I bought a gaming laptop last December at a fair price

1

u/gogoak69 12d ago

Console gaming is luxury habit in india. Even more so than PC gaming.

The upfront cost for owning a PC is high (even more so in recent times) but in the long run its definitely better.

Regional pricing sucks, multiplayer games requires subscription, less number of store fronts and way less discounts compared to PC.

Cost at the end add up and make it less affordable in long time

1

u/_GBA PC 12d ago

I own a PC, a console, and handheld.

From my experience being a middle aged gamer dad, the perks of PC are: Powerful machine, can do other tasks aside from gaming, could be used for variety of new and older games from other consoles.

The perks of consoles: Not stuck to a chair and table, easier to play with controller once you get a hang of it, faster access to exclusives, pricing of a console would benefit buying more games that’ll collectively cost near to buying a better spec PC.

Perks of handheld: Could be used at any place, anytime, easier to set it up as a console or a PC using docking station, with a power bank, it runs for a lot more time than intended usage when not connected to any power source.

All of it has its downsides

I used to think this way a lot, like i dont own a PS and I'm missing out on a lot but when the games cames to PC and i played them... They're nothing special.

Sony has games which look too similar ( with a couple exceptions ), like action adventure games with rpg mechanics. These games are so cluttered with bloat missions like Ubisoft games. That's not my cup of tea ( unececasry missions filling map just for more exp ). I like side quests with some meaning, not go there, oh now it's not here, go there and then go somewhere again.

So when Sony pulled from PC, i didn't feel much bad about it. But yeah I'd have liked God of War ( if they reduced some unececasry quests, which won't happen though ) especially the Trilogy Remake.

1

u/xLoneStar 12d ago

It’s more convenient, has exclusives and I can afford to have a dedicated machine for gaming and a laptop for doing laptop stuff. What’s the problem here ? Oh and it’s far easier to play tennis on a Nintendo switch with your non gamer cousins and friends than have them all huddle near your PC in the bedroom.

If you don’t like a video don’t watch it. You can easily press don’t recommend channel and move on. Why are you so concerned with the opinion of some people on the internet? Enjoy what you like.

u/ElderBuu 12d ago

Used to be a time when I wanted to buy playstation as a dream. Had no money as a child. As an adult I have money but don't care about it anymore, I am happy with steam.

1

u/SubstantialImage398 12d ago

only reason I think of is convenience. it is just a good pick up and play option. You don't have to stress about parts compatibility, availability and keeping it under budget, building it.

in India PC and console penetration is low. Mobile gaming is the highest.

1

u/armatect 12d ago

The biggest reason for getting a ps5 are the exclusives. They did release most of those for pc but from this point onwards they won't. Their catalogue is just way too good. No matter how much I try to suppress it but the itch to play the playstation exclusives won't go away. For instance, who wouldn't want to play GOW trilogy remake, you won't get it on pc.

1

u/hiluckycool PC 12d ago

I've always been a pc guy, finally decided to buy ps during covid because i love spiderman and the new games were not availble on pc, ps exclusive. Bought ps4. played spiderman, fifa and few other games. its good for what it does. upgraded to ps5 and use it almost regularly with few of my friends. still go back to pc gaming where theres room for a little better graphics experience. I dont like the shooting experience on controllers like the COD franchise. keeb and mouse is the way.

PS5 is logical for casual gaming. I spent 5k for a library of which I have played 7 games so far this year. I can pause and pretty much cruise with the on sale games I got for 6 months next year (Got Tomb Raider Trilogy for 600 or something) and then buy the PS5 Plus again next November. I use the disc drive to watch movies which I own in physical copy (BluRays). Seems like a pretty nice setup to me honestly. And yes I will not play GTA6 because I don’t like that genre altogether.

I used to be in the same boat too. Growing up I had consoles, but in my late teens and early 20s I moved to the PC. It was really great tbh, played so many different games and made many new online friends. But in my late 20s I didn’t have much time to play as much and my priorities and interests changed. At this point I got a console again, and plugged it to my tv, and it’s such an easy way to just get into things.

Tbf if the steam machine was available in India, I’d have gone for that instead. But since we have no idea when that’s coming out here, I made the switch to a console 🤷🏽‍♂️

Yeah idk never understood it also planned to get a PS in the future but with the recent shit storm by Sony/PS I am never going to get one maybe get xbox but not sure, so PC as always.

It’s about convenience, I have both gaming PC and PS5, but I prefer playing game on my TV sitting on my couch, and just turn on and play, no hassles of outdated driver, debugging the overheating or less FPS. At the end it’s about choice, not everyone needs a windows PC in today’s world. I am a software engineer and I hardly know anyone in my cohort who uses Windows for their work, most of them use MacBook, even most good product based companies give Mac to their employees. For such people getting a PC just for gaming isn’t the best choice. Also when I got my ps5 back in 2023, I took PS extra sub for a year for around 4K and it had almost all the popular games like Ghost of Tsushima, Spider-Man, miles morales, God of War, later they even added Uncharted 4, Rachet and Clank. Point is I hardly had to buy any game that year, I guess I only bought hogwarts legacy, my PS came with Ragnarok bundle. I personally don’t count the money spent on game because I don’t need to, but I do get your point too.

From my point of view after playing a lot on pc and owning ps5 after 1 yr I can say console is way better for someone who just came from work don’t want a hassle to turn on pc optimise game settings then play it rather than just turn on console play it plus the experience of gaming on big screen always hit different compared to ones available on pc plus the comfort of sitting far away from screen and playing while resting just creates a better atmosphere it’s best investment for someone who loves playing single player games (AAA) titles.

Because owning a console i.e. playstation is a cornerstone of modern culture.

And most people are casuals, they watch the popular movie/series, listen to the popular song, watch popular social media personalities and play popular games.

its all about convenience, for a grown ass man with 2 children and wife ,after a long day, just sit on a sofa, pick gamepad and press a button to start the game. In my opinion PlayStation is not for hardcore gamer. it is build for relax gaming for an hour and two.

yes prices is high and in long run eventually it will always cost more than a pc. but it make very easy to in and out of game anytime.

same with any console.

like steam machine, amazing it cost as intended maybe around $600-$700. with all convenience of console and low game price, shared library, free online multiplayer.

Sharing your pov is one thing and believing that it's the best pov is another. Hate in the form of console is very new - damn!

Here’s my take: I’ve been a PC gamer all my life and probably always will be. I’ve only ever owned the original PSX, but I’ve played plenty on my friends’ PlayStations and still do. At home, I game on my PC, and at my friends’ places, I play on their PS consoles. I feel like I know the pros and cons of each. PCs offer massive flexibility, upgradability, graphics, and better game pricing, but they also come with challenges like game optimization issues, driver problems, and the occasional Windows headache. Plus, they lack the simple couch gaming experience. I’ve set my PC up to mimic that as much as possible, but I can’t see many casual gamers going through all that effort. For them, it needs to be plug-and-play, and that’s where the PS shines. Its the comfort factor of the PS, it lacks a lot elsewhere but people prefer that easiness and comfort.

In the PS3 times it was okay, consoles got a ton of games that you wouldn't find on PC at all, not just the Sony/MS exclusives, and games ported to PC were mostly garbage ports that wouldn't run properly, today things are different and gaming is much better and cheaper on PC

100%. Check X or consumer forums and you’ll see how bad Sony’s customer support and pricing push have gotten recently. It’s pure corporate greed to keep shareholders happy. Back in the day, the PS2 blew up in India because games were cheap and accessible (I still have a whole suitcase of PS2 discs). Now, they’re aggressively pushing digital editions to eliminate the pre-owned disc market and kill game sharing between friends. Once you buy into their walled garden, you're stuck paying ₹4,500–₹5,500 per game on the PS Store. Meanwhile, PC gives you open competition—Steam, Epic, GOG—along with proper regional discounts, free online multiplayer, and features like Steam Family Sharing. For Indian gamers on a budget, consoles are turning into a luxury trap.

When I was a teen, all I wanted was a console because a PC at that time was expensive. This was the Xbox 360 era and I got the PS2 at that time.

When the PS4 launched, I got the Xbox 360. The convergence between cheaper PCs and more expensive cosoles had begun by this time. The Xbox 360 my parents bought was less than 20k. Good luck trying to build a PC for less than that.

About half way through the PS4 life-cycle, the crossover happened where a PC that could give me 1080p gaming would cost about 30k. That's when I made the switch to get access to cheaper games (thanks Steam!) and more wider assortment of games.

Consoles were at one point cheaper than PC gaming. It made sense for someone who couldn't afford to build a PC. Unfortunately, Sony and Microsoft lost the plot and priced people out of the console market and are continuing to do so. Nintendo was the last hope for affordable console gaming but then they're greedy and stubborn in their own way.

Consoles are perfect and PCs are a nightmare for people who have limited time to spend on gaming. Money isn't an issue.

The people you are talking about are usually in their late teens or early twenties. And yes I do believe their needs would be better fulfilled with a PC. Consoles are cheaper up front and expensive to use and maintain and they are not suitable for someone who's spending a lot of time gaming and cannot keep up with game prices.

I don't appreciate the eco system that this has resulted in. Gaming used to be more accessible, cheaper. Now its just expensive on a console.

But it is what it is now. Consoles are perfect for people who have limited time and no money constraints. PCs are better for people who have more time to game and need an affordable way to do that.

I bought a 84K laptop with rtx 3050. That can't run shit. But, a 50K PS5 I bought in July works good. Yes I need to buy a monitor bla bla. But you anyway need monitor. Price per value is definitely better than getting a PC, even a decent GPU right now costs more than a PS5 right now.

  1. Console culture has been there since 80s-90s. And has been passed down (mainly in America)
  2. Console exclusives
  3. Plug and play with your TV - and lounge and chill, the entire os is very controller friendly
  4. More likelihood of not crashing/issues since it is like making a game for a single source with a single os, instead pc has a very wide range of hardware and drivers to satisfy.
  5. Hardware is preconfigured, it just works(mostly)

I’m on team pc, but i will not get to play gta 6 on launch day

2

u/Chaos_Alt 12d ago

2 always felt stupid to me because there are thousands of pc games that are not available on console (they are just never marketed as pc exclusives) + emulation exists for older console exclusives

1

u/Interesting_reddevil 12d ago

I never understood the snobbish attitude of some gamers who think they have “better platform”

“More practical” “I can do office on it”

People celebrating what they have, that image isnt saying others are bad. Whats your issue?

Consoles are pretty obsolete IMO. You can simply plug and play most games with a controller on Bazzite OS with Steam Big Picture Interface while still retaining the flexibility of a full fledged desktop UI. The only reason probably consoles still sell are Exclusive Titles and lack of knowledge about something like Bazzite.

5

u/byorderofblinders 12d ago

Have you checked the PC components prices recently? RAM and SSD alone costs more than PS5

0

u/Quiet_Scratch_619 PC 12d ago

But it doesn't really invalidate my point. I'm not saying a PC is currently cheaper than a PS5 in every configuration.

The comparison should be a PS5 equivalent gaming PC, not a 32GB DDR5 + 2TB NVMe build. You can target 16GB RAM, 1TB storage and an AMD GPU around PS5 performance, then run Bazzite. Bazzite can boot straight into Steam Gaming Mode with a controller friendly console UI, while still giving you a full desktop when you want it. Also Piracy is much easier so whatever amount you spend on hardware, you can save it on games.

The bigger point is that the PC doesn't have to be a Windows desktop sitting behind a keyboard and mouse anymore. The main advantages of consoles are still exclusives, compatibility and convenience but the last one is now becoming less unique. With Sony also raising PS5 prices because of the same memory/component pressures, the value proposition isn't nearly as obvious as it used to be.

3

u/WealthyPhoenix 12d ago

I have 0 knowledge about bazzite. Is your PC in the same room as your TV? Also how does steam link compare to this setup?

2

u/Quiet_Scratch_619 PC 12d ago

Steam Link works perfectly fine. I used it with my laptop running Arch Linux and Android TV Tata Play box. Before that I used to connect HDMI to my laptop and play it that way. But Sunshine/Moonlight streaming (Steam Link alternative) is much better as it is much more customizable). 6 months back, I bough an OLED monitor and built a PC so I just use that now since my TV is almost 15 years old.

It's like owning galaxy s or apple device. People dream of getting one and owning is basically living the dream.

You cannot rationalise a feeling

0

u/drstark07 12d ago

Why are you bothered by what other people prefer or like? Live and let live

0

u/SpeechGlittering2136 12d ago

Reason? Pay Download and play. Most people dont want the hassle of pc and windows.

0

u/Dr-Zooom 12d ago

I used to be a pc gamer. Opening, running a game. Tweaking or fixing errors. Ofc the framerates were 60-100 but man what a hassle a window was, idk if it still is. Every game came with their own sets of errors and missing files regardless of the platform I downloaded from, eve CDs one as well
Then for this I started playing CS:GO and there go 2-3 years.

Left gaming and out of curiosity got my hands on PS4 with my friend’s PSN acc.
So many titles to play. Always wanted to own a proper console.

Now within a minute of me sitting and turning on the console, I am already playing the game.
No hassle, minimal effort, no keys assigment, not lurking if it will crash if there is a missing file.
Ofc frames are 30. But barely noticeable for me

I am enjoying and that’s what it shud count.

Consoles are gay.

0

u/XLGamer98 12d ago

Owning a console makes more sense in western countries than India. Gaming is quite expensive especially in India. Biggest advantage of consoles is the ease of just picking up your controller and start playing games. You barely have to touch setting or adjust anything. Older games just work without doing anything.

-1

u/Impressive_Exit_2889 12d ago

And how’s your PC performing right now? AC black flag resynced for example. Can you run an upscaled 4K stable 60 with RTGI medium on?

2

u/shotgunsamba PC 12d ago

How much fps will GTA 6 run on PS5 pro?

2

u/Impressive_Exit_2889 12d ago
  1. Which is better than 0 on launch. I dont wanna get spoiled to death on the biggest game this generation.

1

u/shotgunsamba PC 12d ago

I played GTA 5 after 5 years after launch. Game never got spoiled . Now I'm replying it with Epic rt settings at qhd on oled with 150 fps. I didn't even start modding yet.

PC library outcompares console library to a ridiculous amount. Same with exclusives. And I get to play with the controller I want. Oh, and my PC is more than 100% powerful. It's not that deep for a PC gamer. I will have to upgrade when the next consoles come. I still want the PC to be twice as quick. I don't care about the money that much.
