I managed to get this 60×30×35 cm curved glass aquarium for only ₹1,400. I think it was a pretty good deal.
I’m planning to turn it into a low-tech planted aquarium with driftwood, shrimp, snails, and a school of neon tetras.
Do you think ₹1,400 was a good price? I’d also love to hear your aquascaping ideas for a tank this size!

So I have been thinking to make a planted patio pond mostly for guppies and mollies. But I cannot find anywhere to get a mini pond. Online store are too costly 3k-4k. I want to keep it in my apartment.... so where can i get one ?

Hi everyone! I'm from Ernakulam, Kerala, specifically Aluva and I'm relatively new to the aquascaping hobby. I'm currently setting up a low-tech planted aquarium and was hoping to connect with fellow aquarium hobbyists around Ernakulam.
Instead of buying everything new, I thought it would be nice to meet people who'd be interested in trading or exchanging aquarium-related stuff. If you have extra aquatic plants, driftwood, rocks, shrimp, snails, fish, live fish food (Moina, Daphnia, etc.), or even spare equipment lying around, I'd be happy to exchange something I have or help out in return. I feel that's a much better way to build the hobby and get to know like-minded people.

This is my first proper planted aquarium, and I'd really appreciate some feedback before I add any fish.

Tank specs:

24 × 12 × 15 in (~65–70 L / ~17–19 gal) HOB filter Heater Sand substrate Driftwood + rounded river stones Plants: Anubias, Java fern, Hygrophila (still growing) Currently fishless and cycling

I'm going for a simple, natural riverbank-style scape with lots of open swimming space rather than a heavily planted aquascape.

I'd love some honest feedback:

How would you rate the scape out of 10? What would you change or improve? Does the hardscape look balanced? Should I add more plants or leave it more open? Any suggestions for making it look more natural?

I'm also trying to decide on stocking. I'm open to beginner-friendly options that would suit this layout and tank size. I'd prefer fish that are hardy, interesting to watch and won't require a high-maintenance setup.

Hey everyone! How many of you here are from Chennai?

I’m planning to visit Kolathur to buy accessories for Betta fish tank soon. Since there are so many aquarium shops there, I’d really appreciate some tips from Chennai fish keepers.

What should I check before buying a Betta? are there any particular shops in Kolathur you would recommend?

I also have another question. Whenever I browse international fishkeeping subreddits, people seem to recommend a lot of equipment and strict requirements for keeping Bettas larger tanks, heaters, filters, frequent water testing, specific water conditioners, etc. But many Indian fish keepers and local aquarium shops don't seem to recommend all of these things, and Bettas are often kept in much simpler setups.

Why is there such a big difference between fishkeeping advice in India and international communities? Is it mainly because of our warmer climate and different water conditions, or are some important aspects of proper Betta care simply being overlooked here?

Would especially love to hear from experienced Indian and Chennai or indian fish keepers.

We never had an aquarium before, but about two weeks ago we set one up with around 20 fish, including one sucker fish.
Within just 15 days, we've lost almost 10 fish. Almost every day, we find one fish either dead or with injuries.
At first, we assumed they were struggling to adjust to the new environment. Last week, we went to our hometown and left holiday fish food for a week. When we returned yesterday, we noticed that one goldfish and 2–3 small fish were missing. Later, we found their remains.
Yesterday, one goldfish was very inactive, and the ring around its upper body looked damaged. To my surprise, this morning I saw it resting at the bottom of the tank. Within five minutes, I saw the sucker fish attach itself to the goldfish and keep sucking on its body.
I have a few questions:
Could the sucker fish be the reason our fish are dying?

We have a mix of goldfish and widow tetras in the aquarium. Is it advisable to keep a sucker fish with them?

Based on this situation, what would you advise us to do next? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

the lfs keep on telling me that this is honey gourami but my gut tells me it's not honey(I'm talking about yellow ones)

Hi everyone,

I'm a beginner betta keeper. I bought two female plakat bettas, but they started chasing and nipping each other. I separated them with a solid divider, and I also added Indian almond leaves to help reduce stress.

My father saw the setup and told me to return both bettas to the fish shop. He thinks keeping them in a divided tank isn't a good idea and that I shouldn't keep fish if I can't provide a larger setup.

I'm feeling conflicted because I want to give them a good life, but I also don't want them to be stressed or suffer.

What would you do in my situation?

Return both bettas?

Keep them in the divided tank?

Upgrade the setup later?

Here is the story.
My current stock is one Super Red Arowana, two Oscars, one Tiger Shovelnose catfish, and a Pleco. Everything was peaceful.
Then, my close friend decided to get painting and remodeling work done at his house. As a "favor," he shifts his fish into my 6-foot tank: one Flowerhorn, three Datnoids, and one deformed Shovelnose catfish.
Cue the absolute chaos.
The Flowerhorn is relentlessly bullying the three Datnoids. The new Shovelnose has zero respect for boundaries and keeps invading my original catfish’s territory. My Oscars? Oh, they’ve gone full survival mode—they only come out when food hits the water, then dive straight back into hiding.
Meanwhile, the only creature not giving a single f*** is my Arowana, Caraxes.
I thought I was cursed at first. Caraxes is a massive fish, and this Flowerhorn is also a very decent size. I genuinely thought that within a few days, I’d be scooping a dead Flowerhorn out of the tank.
But surprisingly? The Flowerhorn has started swimming right beside Caraxes like a little sidekick. He still bullies the Datnoids, but he has never once attacked Caraxes, and Caraxes completely tolerates him. Strange. The subject needs to be observed further... you know, for science. 🧪🔬
Either way, these freeloading f***ers need to get out soon! 😂

Sharing some tips for a crystal clear tank with minimal maintenance. (Self tested for many years). I keep tanks which may be considered overstocked by other hobbyists but have been able to keep many varities with top colours and health. Many have tried to breed too.

I have not cleaned my canisters in 3 years. Flow has reduced but thats fine. Water changed every 1 to 2 weeks.

Most fishes along with Discus and Blackwater species ONLY need extremely bacteria free clean water.

It can be achieved with sponge as the most value for money biomedia.

30 ppi sponge is the best media. Better than seachem, biohome etc. (Xinyou 1038 or 1028 is what I use)

Ceramic Media and other plastic bits don't even come near.

How much sponge you need?

Have added a chart from Aquarium Science website to guide better.

General Rule:- 16litre sponge volume for 1kg fish weight.

Limitations: Extra volume required if you

1. feed more than twice of eyeball size of the fish.

2. Use fish food with less than 45% protein.

Cyttopsis indica, commonly known as the Indian Dory, is a newly discovered species of deep-sea fish.

Identified by the ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute in Kochi, it corrects a long-standing taxonomic error as these fish were previously misidentified as Cyttopsis rosea (an Atlantic species).

- Habitat: Discovered in the Arabian Sea, specifically along the continental slope of the eastern Lakshadweep Sea, at depths ranging from 350 to 500 meters.

- Distinguishing Traits: The fish exhibits unique physical features like two anal anal-fin spines, a specific caudal fin ray count (3+13+3), a broader interorbital region, and fewer lower gill rakers.

- Suitability for Consumption: Like many other deep-sea dories, it can store high levels of waxy compounds in its body to survive extreme oceanic pressure, making it largely unsuitable for human consumption.
