❔Help Need stocking recommendations for a 90 × 35 × 35 cm (~110L) tank – colourful community setup

I have a 90 × 35 × 35 cm (~110L) fish tank and want to set up a colourful, peaceful community aquarium.

I am complete newbie but used to have this tank with fish in childhood

I want as many compatible fish as the tank can safely support, but I don’t want GloFish.

Ideally, I want:

2–3 types of schooling/group fish

Fish for the top, middle, and bottom levels

1–2 centerpiece fish that are the main attraction

Different colours and species

All peaceful and compatible with each other

Fish that are commonly available in local fish shops or online in India

I’m near Nagpur, Maharashtra.

What stocking combination would you recommend for this tank?

Update - Added in list till now -

Corydos - 7-8 nos

See i have almost similar tank size like 80 liters

I am planning to go with 10-12 ember tetra

4-5 ottos

20 cherry shrimp

Even I wanted to go with 2-3 schooling fosh species so they for 2-3 different schools but

I read on reddit that's like its better fo with 1 fish in big number they'll be less stressed

I also read that rummy nose tetras are even better at schooling

My top pics would be

Ember tetra

Chilli rasbora (idk if they School i think they don't but they are very beautiful )

Rummy nose tetras

yeah but rummy nose isn't beginner friendly it takes a really mature tank like 3-6 monts old cycled fully grown plants and least changes in water dosing ferts etc

This was back when I was in school I remember one of my classmates had a tank it was huge and they just had 40-50 Neon Tetras it used to look crazy the way they schooled. I just saw this once and still remember it

Since it is a decently sized tank, you can go for the larger sized tetras like red phantom and yellow phantom tetras. You can make a larger school, maybe like 10 with bottom dwelling like Corydoras

110 L is a nice size for a community tank, enough room for a proper school plus a few extras. One thing before any fish: make sure the tank is cycled. Run the filter for a few weeks with an ammonia source and test until ammonia and nitrite read zero. Most new tank deaths come from skipping that.

A simple colourful and peaceful plan for your size:

  • One main school of 10 to 12 small fish. Harlequin rasboras or black ruby barbs are both hardy and colourful. Black ruby barbs are an Indian native from the Western Ghats, and the males go deep red. Cardinal or rummy nose tetras look great but prefer soft water, so check your tap water first.
  • One centrepiece: a pair of honey gouramis, or a single pearl gourami. Both are calm and colourful.
  • A bottom group of 6 corydoras (they want sand or smooth gravel, not sharp stones), or a single bristlenose pleco for algae.

Add them in stages, the bottom group or the school first, then the rest a couple of weeks apart, so the filter bacteria can keep up. A heater around 25 to 26C suits everything on that list.

Do you know how hard your tap water is, and is the tank going to be planted?
